Since the publication of People Love Dead Jews, Dara Horn has become one of the country’s leading voices on modern antisemitism. Now we have a unique opportunity to engage with her in a live Zoom program just for Isaiah.
People Love Dead Jews, this year’s temple-wide read, is a trenchant examination of how the focus on remembering victims of antisemitism has failed to curb modern hatred of Jews. The book adds significant dimensions to our understanding of antisemitism, including the role of Holocaust education and the media’s response to antisemitic attacks.
We encourage you to read People Love Dead Jews in advance of the program. It’s a collection of essays; you can read as many or as few as you like. We particularly recommend these chapters:
Introduction: In the Haunted Present
Chapter 1: Everyone's (Second) Favorite Dead Jew
Chapter 6: Legends of Dead Jews
Chapter 12: Dead American Jews, Part Three: Turning the Page
Copies of the book are available in the temple library, in the Minuteman Library network, and at your favorite bookstore.
You can participate in the Zoom program from home or with fellow congregants at the temple (followed by a dessert reception!). In the following months, we will also offer follow-up discussion groups.
