The fall semester is upon us and classes will be starting soon. As a faculty or staff member, you can major in a healthier you! Expand your knowledge base and get to know others on campus with one of our upcoming programs.

Undergraduate students aren't the only folks here with a great capacity for learning as this BBC article notes, even the most senior of us can keep learning!
Charity Yoga Event at the University Farm this Saturday
Join CWRU Wellness Champion, Julie DiBiasio, for a Vinyasa Flow Yoga class at the Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms on Saturday, August 4th at 10 AM. Participants are requested to register in advance for this hour long event. In addition, Julie will be taking donations for The Gathering Place, a local charity which offers a wide variety of free programs and services addressing the emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs of individuals and families currently coping with the impact of a cancer journey.

A sticky mat, towel and water bottle are suggested for the class.

If you would like to donate, but can't make the event, please feel free to send your check, made out to The Gathering Place, to Mary Ann Dobbins, Crawford Hall 320.

This Saturday is also a Farmer's Market Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. So bring your canvas bag and load up on healthy produce while you are there. (Please Note: The Farm Market Stand takes cash only.)

Mahnic is Back, with Financial Wellness 201

Financial Well-being is one of our six Wellness Program Incentive categories and we are lucky to have Weatherhead Associate Professor of Finance and Banking Bill Mahnic back for Financial Wellness 201. This deeper dive into a variety of finance topics is open to all benefits eligible faculty and staff regardless of whether they have completed the 101 class.
We will offer sessions on Wednesday during the lunch hour and after work starting on August 29. See the Wellness Website for class topics by date.

Read a Book, or Three
Books@Work brings professor-led literature seminars to workplaces and community settings to build confidence, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Over the course of 12 weeks, the group will discuss three different books. Through shared narratives, Books@Work encourages and nurtures work cultures rooted in trust, open dialogue and strong social connection – all critical elements of well-being.

Gain Flexibility and Core Strength

Unwind at the end of the work day with a short core workout, followed by 30 minutes of full body flexibility training. Exercises and stretches will be performed both in chairs and on the floor, so a yoga mat or towel is suggested.

To see improvement in overall flexibility the ACSM suggests stretching for 20-30 minutes 2-3 times per week. Register soon for this popular class from the Wellness Program.

New this Fall, The Staywell HRA

The Health Risk Assessment is back in a new and improved form this year. You will be able to complete the HRA starting today by logging on at cwru.staywell.com with your first name, DOB and network ID.

The HRA is one of THREE activities you will need to complete to become a 2019 Wellness Participant and receive the $25 monthly incentive in your paycheck.
The Quest Biometric Screening Scheduler is also open today. Use registration key: CWRU. or use the same username and password you have used in years past. (Please call Quest at 866.908.9440 if you have forgotten your password.) Screenings on campus start the last week of September.
This fall, the Wellness Program is rolling out a new initiative as a way to help your work group better support one another to lead more healthy lives. The goal is to enrich relationships, build collaboration and decrease stress at work.

Your Healthy Department Toolkit will be available online AND in the September 1 newsletter. Get your group of at least five together so you can participate!
Also this Fall, The CWRU Wellness Program is piloting a coaching program for 100 faculty or staff members.

If your Quest Diagnostic Screening results indicate that you are at risk for metabolic syndrome in 3 of 5 areas of concern: Blood Sugar, HDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Blood Pressure, and Waist Circumference you will be invited to participate in this new program from Omada Health.
