July 23, 2021
The State this week announced nearly $30 million to expand broadband internet access to more than 12,000 households in 18 counties. The funding, part of the State’s commitment to invest $300 million in federal rescue funds to help bridge the digital divide, will complement county and private-sector initiatives to extend affordable and reliable broadband to unserved or underserved communities. MACo adopted “Build out Broadband” among its top legislative initiatives for 2021 and supported multiple successful initiatives. Counties continue to develop innovative approaches to this vexing issue, which is sure to be one of the hottest topics at the MACo Summer Conference Tech Expo.
