From the Desk of the Superintendent

Dear Boone County Schools Faculty & Staff,

As we wrap up the school year be sure to take time to reflect – you have accomplished many things and you have made a contribution to the growth and development of your students. Thank you for that work! I directly and indirectly see and hear the time, energy, and passion that you bring to your classrooms, schools, or job sites. We are blessed with great people in Boone County and I am very thankful you are part of our team!  One of my favorite education quotes is written by Carl Jung and it always makes see the faces of some of my students from the past. We are all blessed to work in a profession with a significant purpose – we work for kids.

“One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but the warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.” - Carl Jung

Below is one of my favorite education quotes, written by William Butler Yeats. Also below are quotes from School Board Members Dr. Maria Brown and Jesse Parks.

“Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.” William Butler Yeats

“Thank you hardly seems sufficient for the tireless commitment you make to inspire the students in the Boone County Schools. Day in and day out you pour into our students and conquer any obstacle to meet their needs. I see it in how you have impacted my children and their friends. I see it in the children in my neighborhoods and beyond. Our students are blessed beyond measure to have such passionate, gifted educators guiding them forward to a life of learning. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Maria Brown, Ph.D.

School Board Member, District 2

“The educators here in our Boone County Schools are about to put another wonderful and successful year of educating, mentoring, and caring for our students in the books. Our community is fortunate to have such amazing educators teaching our children. Therefore, I want to say THANK YOU on behalf of myself, the Board of Education, parents, and community members here in Boone County. Our beloved educators and support staff are truly world class. I am inspired by your work and reminded daily of the continued sacrifice you all make on behalf of our students. Again, I say a heartfelt, Thank You for all you do for our students.”

Young Women LEAD

The Boone County Young Women LEAD Club wrapped up for the year last week with a chance to hear from Tori Murden McClure, the President of Spalding University. Mrs. Murden McClure has many groundbreaking accomplishments. She was the first woman and first American to row a boat solo across the Atlantic Ocean, having accomplished the feat in 1999 after 81 days at sea. A decade earlier, she became the first woman and first American to ski to the geographic South Pole during a 50-day, 750-mile expedition. Tori Murden McClure has worked consistently to make education more accessible and to inspire individuals, particularly students at Spalding, to be problems solvers, willing to meet the challenges of our times through learning and understanding. Our students had a Q & A session with Mrs. Murden McClure and received an autographed copy of her book - A Pearl in the Storm: How I Found My Heart in the Middle of the Ocean.

YWL is a student group that includes high school girls from all of Boone County’s High Schools (Ryle, Cooper, Connor, Ignite, and Rise Academy). There are currently 130 girls who applied and were accepted for this year’s YWL Club.

Young Women LEAD is a non-profit organization that works to empower high school girls to be bold, confident leaders in their communities. Over the past 14 years, they have hosted 57 live events reaching more than 42,500 high school girls.
