All Boone County Schools will have an early release day on Thursday October 26th. We want to provide you with information to assist in your planning.

Morning activities such as bus pick up times and breakfast will not change. Buses will pick up at the normally scheduled time and breakfast will be served in the manner that normally takes place at your child’s school.

Middle and High Schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. Students will be provided with a bagged lunch at locations to be determined by the building administration and food service manager customized to each school at dismissal time. Bus drop off times will be 3 hours earlier than the normally scheduled drop off time. Ex: If your child normally arrives home at 3:00 p.m. they will arrive home at approximately 12:00 p.m. on the early release day.

Light the Way: This week aims to “Light the Way.” Schools can promote and enhance school safety through targeted activities and discussions. The goal is to raise awareness about various aspects of school safety and empower students, teachers, parents, and the community to take proactive measures to create a safe learning environment.

Break The Mold - Dana Wilde of Collins Elementary School

October's Break The Mold award winner is Special Education Teacher Dana Wilde.  What makes her special? Her colleagues and the parents of her students say Dana’s energy and her ability to engage her students and make connections with real life skills. Because of this, Dana is a highly sought after mentor throughout the state as you will see evidence of in this video.

Congratulations to the following Exceptional Boone County School District Educators.

Kevin Dailey of Ballyshannon Middle School recently won the 2024 Valvoline Kentucky Teacher of the Year. He was also named a 2023 Lowell Milken Center Fellow for Unsung Heroes in Fort Scott, Kansas. Mr. Dailey is a history teacher at Ballyshannon Middle School. He was awarded this prestigious fellowship and spent a week this summer at Fort Scott to collaborate with the LMC staff.

Maegan Tepe also of Ballyshannon Middle School, was alongside Mr. Dailey as a semifinalist for the 2024 Teacher of the Year. We celebrate her hard work and dedication as well!

Transportation News

In the ongoing efforts to find additional bus drivers the Boone County Schools Transportation Department HAS welcomed and IS employing a unique suggestion. Resurrecting an old norm to address the bus driver shortage is proving a resourceful option in the short term.  See in the video below.

Congratulations to teacher Leslie Dillon!

Ballyshannon Middle School teacher Leslie Dillon has been selected as a Fellow in the Kentucky Innovative Learning Network’s Innovative Teacher Fellowship for the 2023-2024 school year. This is an exciting opportunity for Leslie to engage with a cohort of forward-thinking and innovative teachers as they work to transform the learner experience in their classrooms.

Each Innovative Teacher Fellow will develop and implement a personalized, learner-centered project in their classrooms that explicitly connects to the Three Big Ideas of the Kentucky United We Learn vision: vibrant learning experiences for every student, innovation in assessment, and collaboration with communities.

Superintendent's District Ambassador Program

The third session of the Superintendent's District Ambassador Program (SDAP) was held last Friday at New Haven Elementary School. This session highlighted the Finance Department under the leadership of Finance Director Linda Schild.  The Boone County Schools Finance Department handles things like Accounting, Budgets and Purchasing. Through this work they are able to inform the Board of Education and the Superintendent about the financial status of the District's operations. Ambassadors learned about what resources are available and how they are spent. Direct services to schools and departments was explained. They were told about local, state and federal grants the district receives. They were provided information on the general fund, payroll and compliance and administration issues as they relate to the finance department. Mary Goble is Principal of New Haven Elementary. A tour of the school followed the session.

** Potential Ambassadors are selected by the Superintendent. The next SDAP class starts in July of 2024. If you would like to become an ambassador next year please email barbara.brady@boone.kyschools.us.
