We thank all the Information Technology Professionals working in the Boone County School District! They are among the hardest working employees here. They are quick to respond, determine an issue and develop a fix. If the problem is something that will take some time to correct they keep you updated by checking in periodically. And most importantly they never make you feel unintelligent because you can't figure out what went wrong. They take the time to explain the problem and whether or not the fix will be quick or there may be a wait time. They have many other duties that you and I will never know about because they are constantly working hard behind the scenes to keep the school district running smoothly. We are very fortunate to have the team we have under the direction of Mary Ann Rankin, Director of Technology.

PRINCIPAL KISSES A PIG!

Ockerman Elementary School hosted a Pig Kissing event today. It was part of a deal if the school met its fundraising goal of $8,000 in the Booster Fun Run. Ockerman succeeded beyond the goal to almost $13,000. Several people agreed to kiss the pig if they met the goal namely Principal Chris Ritzi. He put on some red lipstick and planted a kiss on this adorable pig. However, the pig seemed to be thinking...'Hey whoa, what is happening here?' See the video below.

School Board Notes

Break The Mold - Lisa Peters of Ockerman Elementary School

September’s Break The Mold award winner is English Language Teacher Lisa Peters of Ockerman Elementary School. Mrs. Peters has been teaching the English Language to students for nine years. She is recognized by her peer EL Teachers for the barriers she has broken down with kindness and compassion. She believes a student’s strength comes from their family support so she also finds way to engage her student’s families in the educational process.

New Transportation Director

Boone County Schools Transportation Department has a new leader. Congratulations to Nick Greer taking over the post following the retirement of former director Bob Barrix. Mr. Greer knows this job is not without its challenges and has come up with some creative ideas as we continue the search for solutions to the bus driver shortage. Meet Mr. Greer through the video below.

Congratulations to the following Exceptional Boone County School District Educators and Administrators

Superintendent Matthew Turner who made the Special Edition of Cincy Magazine's Power 100 in the Education section! The edition showcases the pinnacle of the tristate's leadership, encompassing innovative executive and influential figures across diverse industries as well as the up-and-coming leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations Superintendent Turner!

And Congratulations to Tasha Lovins of Ryle High School and Sarah Kendall of Ockerman Middle School. Both teachers were celebrated for the Campbellsville Excellence in Teaching Awards. The purpose of the program is to recognize the quality teaching and learning taking place in the school systems throughout Kentucky. Through the awards program, Campbellsville University presents certificates to teachers in each grade level (preschool/elementary, middle grades, and high school) as selected by their school districts.

Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

The first meeting of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC) meet last week led by Cooper High School's Youssef Saidi as the Student School Board Representative. New and returning student members from Boone County Elementary, Middle and High Schools discussed Student Advisory Council Expectations as representatives from their schools and learned what it means to be a consensus builder in their council role. Superintendent Matt Turner opened the first SSAC for the year with an encouraging talk to the students and school board member Carolyn Wolfe visited the group.

Superintendent's District Ambassador Program

The second session of the Superintendent's District Ambassador Program (SDAP) was held this month at Boone County High School in their brand new Performing Arts Center. This session highlighted the Student and Community Services Department under the leadership of Executive Director Kathy Reutman. Student and Community Services supports and fosters positive relationships among educators and students, thereby increasing students/attachment to school. Student and Community Services is an essential link between students and their families, school resources and community-based health and social services. This department also houses the Public Relations arm of the district where important communications work for the schools and community is developed. A tour of Boone County High's new Performing Arts Center preceded the session.

** Potential Ambassadors are selected by the Superintendent. The next SDAP class starts in July of 2024. If you would like to become an ambassador next year please email [email protected].
