Dear Friend,

Springtime is finally here, and the days are getting longer and brighter.  It’s great to see our friends and neighbors venturing out and soaking up a bit of sunshine in our backyard.  A couple of days ago, we even had a family enjoying a leisurely picnic on the patio.  What joy!

In the spirit of the season, we are launching a host of fresh events and new programs, including our updated and improved Museum Pass Program and a springtime haiku competition.  More details below.

April 22nd is Earth Day

We have several events planned in honor of our beautiful planet. 

Monday, April 10, 7-8:30 p.m. Nature’s Best Hope: A Zoom presentation by Doug Tallamy

Mr. Tallamy is one of the nation’s foremost ecologists. In this program, he will discuss his most recent book. Nature’s Best Hope, which offers sensible advice on how to protect our native plants and wildlife. The event is in hybrid format: Participants are invited to join us at the library for a “watch party” or zoom from home. Please register for the program here.

Friday, April 21, 3:30 p.m.  Earth Day Crafternoon. 

Miss Allie is planning fun, hands-on upcycling crafts for kids, ages 6 and up. Please register for the program here.

Saturday, April 22, 1 p.m. 

A Guided Walking Tour of the Emilie K. Hammond Wildflower Trail at Tourne Park. Lee Gaitskill and Sue Salsberg of the Rockaway Valley Garden Club will tell the story of this beautiful treasure in our backyard, followed by a guided walking tour. All ages are welcome. The trail is a bit uneven, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Please register for the program here.

Our multiweek Minecraft project is moving towards its grand finale.

Dates to remember:

Monday, April 3, 6 p.m. – Instruction session on how to create a video for the project.

Monday, April 24 – Video submissions due

Monday, May, 1, 6 p.m. – Grand finale! Participants will showcase videos describing their projects. Winners will be announced. Refreshments served!

Springtime Haiku Competition

April is National Poetry Month. In the spirit of the season, we are launching a haiku competition in celebration of spring, open to all Boonton residents and library cardholders. Time to think “spring” and get in touch with your inner poet!

Deadline for submission: 

Monday, May 1. Winners will be announced Friday, May 5.

Canasta Club

Starting Thursday, May 4, we are launching an 8-week series of canasta classes for beginners and players with “rusty” skills. Pre-registration is required as space is limited to 16 participants. If you are interested in participating, please sign up here.
