Greetings From The Library Staff

Dear Friend,

Let me start with wishing a very happy and healthy New Year to everyone celebrating the Lunar New Year. In the Chinese Zodiac 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, whose characteristics include optimism, grace, generosity, kind-heartedness, wit, and nimbleness. Let’s hope the new year has all of those strengths! Should you want to learn more about the celebrations associated with the Lunar New Year, we have a very nice collection of children’s books on the subject.

In the spirit of the New Year, we are instituting some changes and fresh initiatives in February, including weekly Tech Advice by appointment, a new day-time yoga class, and a return of the museum pass program. More details later in this Newsletter.

Looking forward to seeing you at the library!

February is Black History Month

We are celebrating the month by showcasing our adult and children's collections of literature written by and featuring heroes and heroines of our nation's African American community. Come on in and check them out!

Kids' Corner

Boonton Cubed

Friday, March 3-Monday, May 1

We are partnering with the Historical Society and teacher and local father Eric Glatz to bring you Boonton Cubed: Building History.

Children in grades 3-8 – beginners and seasoned gamers alike -- are invited to participate in an 8

week long collaborative e-sports project that combines Minecraft world building with real life historical buildings/sites in our town. With input from members of the Historical Society each participant will select a historic Boonton site and build a virtual world around or within it. Once

the sites have been selected, there will be ample time for research and building. Throughout the project participants will have access to Minecraft via the library’s server.

The program will culminate in a viewing party where gamers will have a chance to showcase their work. For more information, visit our website here, or come to the introductory meeting on March 6th, at 6pm.

Register to participate here.

Staff Reading Suggestion

Papi: My Story is a memoir by David "Big Papi" Ortiz that every baseball fan should read. Even Yankees fans would enjoy this! Papi tells Ortiz's story as a star player for the Boston Red Sox for 14 years. Helping the team win 3 World Series, Ortiz helped break the Red Sox curse. Request a copy of Papi: My Story here.
