Booth Show Purchase Awards

We were so honored to announce the Booth Western Art Museum Purchase Awards for AWA's Making Their Mark show. The Booth Musuem selected five works from the show. Right Where I Want To Be, oil by JaNeil Anderson (NM), Sunset Sunburst, oil by Diane Arenberg, The Secret Keepers, pastel by Lisa Gleim (GA), Western Homestead, acrylic by Claudia Hartley (AZ), and Buffalo Gals, bronze by Star Liana York (NM) will now reside in the permanent collection of the Western Art Museum.

AWA's 25 in 25 Initiative, to organize 25 museum shows in as many years, began in 2017. The five purchase awards by the Booth Museum now bring the total number of museum purchase awards to ten, helping to secure the rightful place for women in fine arts.

Congratulations to all the artists on this special honor, and our deepest thanks to the Booth Museum for its generosity!

Rediscovered Women Artists
Edith Gregor Halpert: Pioneer Gallerist for American Artists and Their Art

by Jann Haynes Gilmore, PhD, AWA Board Member

Epic gallerist Edith Halpert led the mainstreaming of American modernism and folk art into the canon of 20th century art history. Halpert established the Downtown Gallery in 1926 and until recently, she has been overlooked as an influential art figure. Successful artists know the importance of gallery representation, and Edith Halpert provided powerful support for her American artists between the world wars.
