The Holiday Season Is A Glowing Reason To Visit The Harbor!

Boothbay Harbor is not without its winter festivities! Join the region as we celebrate the season in grand, old-fashioned, holiday style.

The Harbor offers a variety of activities for young and old and will surely put you in the holiday spirit! Meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus who arrive via boat, take a horse-drawn wagon ride around the harbor, sing Christmas Carols, watch the lighted boat parade, and gather up lots of holiday cheer and merriment!

This is an opportunity to experience the best of Boothbay in the winter season. You'll have the chance to do some holiday shopping, dine at our wonderful restaurants, enjoy festive events and so much more!

New England's biggest and brightest light display, with over 650,000 lights! Gardens Aglow is an outdoor walking event - please dress appropriately for Maine's seasonal weather.

Maine Foodie Tours is thrilled to be showcasing the deliciously talented culinary scene of Boothbay Harbor! 
 Join us on our NEWEST tour launching November, 2018 for the Gardens Aglow season and extending to 2019.

This tour introduces a mix of some of the areas oldest and newest locally-owned establishments while showcasing the culinary creativity that is alive and well! Bring your appetite for food, stories, and facts about the vibrantly local food economy offered year-round in the harbor.

Join our friendly, local tour guides and be introduced to 6 locally-owned businesses to explore and taste their delectable, native-to-Maine foods. Enjoy a lively walk to restaurants, a gourmet food and cheese shop, a cafe and more while you taste your way through town! Don't worry if it's cold outside. Our partners and their foods will warm you up with Maine crabcakes and fish tacos, seafood chowders, fresh baked breads, lots of desserts and more!

You'll learn about the history of Boothbay and it's harbor, the thriving lobstering and fishing industries, award-wining aquaculture, sustainable practices, and culinary events to enjoy this season - all on a beautiful, leisurely walk on the harbor.

Bring your appetite for food and knowledge as we guarantee to fill your mind and your stomach. This is a great way to jump start your visit to Boothbay as we will recommend all sorts of activities and dining to enjoy.

When: Tours offered November - December, several days/week and by special request for groups of 8 or more
How long: 2.5 hours
What's included: Your local guide and all food and beverages, tips to servers
Who: All ages are welcome
Capacity: 14 people per tour
What to wear: Comfortable and Maine weather appropriate clothing and shoes
Weather conditions: Tour takes place rain, shine or snow
Where: Tour meets and ends at/near 11 Howard Street/ parking lot. (This is near the "Gardens A Glow" shuttle.)

Advanced tickets required and may be purchased up to one hour before they begin. Tours sell out, so call soon!

Let it be known that the popular holiday event, Art in the Square, 
is not held outdoors in the middle of Townsend Square! 
It is held indoors at the Boothbay Harbor Art Foundation (BRAF) gallery 
where you will find 12 x 12 squares painted by local and regional artists - professionals and amateur.

The 2018 Gingerbread Spectacular winners are announced at this gala fundraising evening.

Be the first in your neighborhood to see this year's confectionery creations, while enjoying wonderful hors d'oeuvres prepared by the Friends of the Opera House and listening to the holiday sounds of the hugely talented Novel Jazz Quartet.

Dress is anything from casual to holiday finery. A magical evening, perhaps the best party of the season. Starts early with doors opening at 5:30 PM!

Annual Gingerbread Spectacular

December 15 -  December 16

This annual display of gingerbread houses large and small, with a few cabins, castles, lighthouses, and mythical structures thrown in for good measure shows off the heart of the community.

Professional bakers and grade school builders all compete in this hilarious annual event with prizes!

The confectionery creations are on display throughout the weekend from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday. No admission fee on Saturday or Sunday.

Entertainment, cocoa, bake sale, and the magical gingerbread structures make this the most fun weekend of the year at the Opera House.  

Community Holiday Potluck & Carol Sing

December 19 @ 6:00 pm

As winter settles in the community is invited to come together for the final event of the 2018 Opera House season.

The Opera House really shines during the holiday season and on this night it sparkles more brightly than any other.

Please bring a plate and utensils for yourself, in addition to a hot main or side dish, salad or dessert for all to share.

The Opera House bar will have beverages available, please do not bring your own. Following dinner Kevin Kiley will head to the piano, along with a troupe of vocalists to help sing in the longest night of the year. A wonderful community tradition.

North Pole Express
December 8 -  December 23

On Saturdays and Sundays, December 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 & 23 the Boothbay Railway Village will be running the "North Pole Express!"

Train conductors will call "All Aboard" and everyone, young and old, will board the train to the North Pole. Settle into a comfortable seat in the steam-heated passenger car as you enjoy the winter wonderland of forest frosted with white snow (weather permitting, of course.)

Candlelight & Cocktails on Rails
December 8 -  December 22

Candlelight & Cocktails on the Rails is perfect for a date night or a girlfriend's night out with a vintage twist. 

Step back to a simpler time when the soft glow of candles and lanterns lit the villages and towns all along the coast of Maine at the holidays. 

A coal fire will be burning in the stove inside Freeport Station when you arrive and traditional treats will be served including mulled cider, spiked eggnog, roasted chestnuts, and more.
