CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC 2009
ST. EMILION | BORDEAUX
43,500 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 12 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Cheval Blanc offers up profound notions of baked blueberries, blackberry compote and crème de cassis with suggestions of chocolate mint, new leather and cloves plus a waft of candied violets.

Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in elegance with very classy, super fine-grained tannins, beautiful freshness and layer upon layer of mineral-laced blue and black fruits, finishing long and perfumed.

CHATEAU LA FLEUR-PETRUS 2018
POMEROL | BORDEAUX
12,500 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 36 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
A blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2018 la Fleur-Petrus has a medium garnet-purple color and a slightly closed-down nose to begin, soon unfurling to reveal earthy notions of black truffles, mossy tree bark and damp soil, over a core of plum preserves, wild blueberries and redcurrants, plus a fragrant waft of menthol lilacs.

The medium to full-bodied palate has the most gorgeous, velvety texture with well-knit freshness giving lift to the densely packed black fruit and earthy layers, finishing with a beguiling perfume.

Stunning. Give it a good 3-4 years in bottle and drink it over the next 30 years or more.

CHATEAU FIGEAC 2009
ST. EMILION | BORDEAUX
11,500 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 60 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
This is an excellent vintage to drink now, with huge amounts of liquorice, cedar, crème caramel, bilberry and black cherry, with a fleshy texture to the fruit but just starting to show more tertiary notes of earth, crushed stone and soft mint on the finish.

Feels like the perfect Right Bank take on a Left Bank, generous and open but with a steely core and tannins that remain sure to take this wine forward over many decades to come.

This was Thierry Manoncourt's last full vintage, as he died in 2010 (his first had been 1947).

Drinking Window 2021 - 2048.

CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL 2017
ST. ESTEPHE | BORDEAUX
6,900 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 48 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
Composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, yields for the grand vin in 2017 were 43 hectoliters per hectare, and it was aged in 60% new oak.

It came in at an alcohol of 13% and an IPT of 68. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cos d'Estournel needs a little coaxing to unfurl, revealing beautiful expressions of preserved plums, boysenberries, blackcurrant pastilles and wild blueberries with hints of Indian spices, menthol, lilacs and mossy tree bark plus a compelling suggestion of iron ore.

Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the tightly wound blue and black fruits layers, finishing long and fragrant.

This wine will need a good 5-7 years in bottle before it begins to blossom and should go on for at least another 40 years.

I expect this wine to be a blockbuster of a head-turner when I come back and taste it at 10 years of age!

CHATEAU MONTROSE 2014
ST. ESTEPHE | BORDEAUX
6,900 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 24 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
Another contender for wine of the vintage.

Here things get a little deep and fleshy, with crushed damson fruit that holds its integrity.

Tannins are big and bold, oak influence clear but not offputting, just giving boots to slip your feet into.

Your mouth responds to these tannins, reminds you that wine tasting us a physical activity.

Great quality, what a brilliant wine.

CHATEAU LEOVILLE POYFERRE 2018
ST. JULIEN | BORDEAUX
5,990 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 84 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
Every bit as good as the 2009, and I think better than the 2010 and 2016, the 2018 Château Léoville Poyferré is a total thrill that tops out my scale.

Based on 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, its dense purple hue is followed by an incredible, full-bodied monster of a wine that, despite massive amounts of fruit, tannin's, and extract, still stays weightless and ethereal, with incredible purity.

Loaded with notions of crème de cassis, spring flowers, tobacco, violets, charcoal, and cedar pencil, it's extraordinarily concentrated, flawlessly balanced, and has a finish that won't quit.

This is a legendary wine in the making.

Give bottles 7-8 years, a decade would be even better, and it will keep for 40-50 years.

Hats off to the Cuvelier family for another extraordinary wine!

CHATEAU TROPLONG MONDOT 2014
ST. EMILION | BORDEAUX
4,650 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 48 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
The 2014 Troplong Mondot is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage, and this beauty has more intensity, richness, and exuberance than just about every other wine in 2014.

A blend of 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc brought up in 85% new French oak, it sports a deep purple/plum color as well as a smorgasbord of blackcurrants, blackberries, scorched earth, toasty oak, graphite, espresso, and earth.

With full-bodied richness, beautiful purity of fruit, and a rich, yet weightless texture, it’s a big, yet classy, elegant, and seamless wine from Xavier Pariente that should be snatched up by readers.

It’s already drinking well but has 20-25 years of prime drinking to go.

CHATEAU MONBOUSQUET 2014
ST. EMILION | BORDEAUX
2,650 BAHT / BOTTLE
ONLY 180 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
Not shy, with hefty fig paste and blackberry pâte de fruit notes backed by a rumble of bramble, ganache and licorice snap.

Underneath roils a base layer of tobacco and graphite that should slowly surface with time.

May have pushed the extraction envelope ever so slightly, but this keeps it together in the end.

Best from 2022 through 2032.

CHATEAU LA GAFFELIERE 2016 MAGNUM

This was delicious En Primeur and is even better now with three years under its belt.

It's had time to bed down and is fully set for the long term.

Wonderfully rich, intense dark fruits are joined by grip and supple tannins through the palate. It has hints of dark chocolate, and a floral edge from the Cabernet Franc.

Be in no rush to open this, because it's clearly going to deliver over the next few decades.

As of this vintage, we are seeing the blend that the estate hopes to maintain (60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc).
