In collaboration with education, industry, and workforce development partners, the K-16 Collaborative: Border Region Talent Pipeline is creating a Healthcare Career Exploration & Pathways Resource for San Diego & Imperial Counties.
This shareable resource guide for high school & community college students, parents, teachers, and counselors will cover a vast range of occupations in the healthcare sector including job descriptions, skill/educational requirements (licensure/certifications), salary/hourly wages, and labor market information, specific to the San Diego and Imperial region. The goal is to have the resource guide created by the end of Summer 2025 leading to a regional K-16 Collaborative in-person event in late Fall 2025. More to come soon!

Healthcare Partner Highlights | |

On January 15, San Diego Regional EDC, in partnership with Bank of America, hosted a dynamic luncheon to explore the healthcare talent landscape in San Diego County. This event brought together a cross-section of 75+ healthcare industry leaders, educational institutions, nonprofits, and community advocates to spotlight the region’s healthcare workforce challenges and opportunities.
Together, we launched a critical conversation about how collaboration and an industry-led approach can strengthen our regional healthcare talent pipelines. Read more about the luncheon.

Cal State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is launching a new program in Fall 2025: SWIFT (Scholars in Wellness and Innovation Fast Track) Health Programs, an accelerated, 3-year bachelor’s program for students majoring in Human Development or Public Health. They are hosting several virtual information sessions in March for students interested in mental and behavioral health careers who have applied to CSUSM or are interested in applying in the future. | | |

UC San Diego Health Student Nurse Externships
The following applications are open from Feb 3 - 28:
- DREAM Externship for ADN students from San Diego City College, Grossmont College, MiraCosta College, and Southwestern College. The DREAM Externship is a two-semester commitment to assist ADN students in transitioning into professional clinical nurse roles and preparing for new graduate RN positions.
- Explore Externship for FALL semester 2025 for BSN/MSN students. The Explore Externship is a one-semester commitment with 120 externship hours to gain clinical or quality nursing experiences.
The Explore Career Path Program at UCSDH provides externships for nursing students each semester to gain meaningful clinical experiences as part of their nursing journey.

READI Program at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at USD | |

The Real Estate Awareness and Diversity Initiative (READI) program is a partnership program between the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate and non-profit organizations in San Diego that serve junior high and high school students from underserved communities.
They have developed this program over the past five years and have seen significant growth and impact, specifically over the past 18 months. More information on the READI program can be found here.
