Holiday Paper and Cardboard Recycling Schedule

New Date - Thursday, December 26


There will be no regularly scheduled recycling collection on Wednesday, December 25. All residents will have their recycling (paper/cardboard) collected on Thursday, December 26. Holiday pick-up instructions.

Chanukah Menorah Lighting Ceremony at Borough Hall

Thursday, December 26 at 5:30 PM

 

On Thursday, December 26, the Chabad NWBC will host their annual Chanukah Lighting Ceremony. This year a Drone Show will fly over Municipal Field after the ceremony. The celebration is centered around the lighting of the Borough Menorah by Rabbi Kaplan, and will be featuring for the first time a Drone Show. There will also be costumed mascots, light-up giveaways, crafts and traditional holiday refreshments including potato latkes, hot chocolate, donuts, and chocolate gelt! Flyer.


All are welcome! There is no charge for food or participation. This event is sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center in Franklin Lakes.

Extra Holiday Garbage Collection

Friday, December 27, 2024 


The Mayor and Council have made special arrangements with Gaeta Recycling for all Borough residents to receive an additional garbage collection after Christmas.


The special collection is scheduled for Friday, December 27. All residents will have this extra garbage collection on Friday, December 27. Please place your garbage at the curb the night before or by 6:00 AM on Friday morning. Since this is a special collection, pickup times may differ than your regular garbage collection. Please limit your garbage to regular kitchen trash. No furniture, carpet or non-kitchen garbage items will be picked up. Information is available at www.franklinlakes.org/holidayschedule.

2024 Mayor's Volunteer Awards Presented

 

At the Mayor and Council meeting on Tuesday, December 17, eight deserving volunteers were honored as recipients of the 2024 Mayor’s Volunteer Award, based on nominations submitted. The Mayor’s Volunteer Award recognizes volunteers in the Franklin Lakes community that provide services and fill the needs of many that would not otherwise be met. The Awards were presented by Mayor Charles Kahwaty as an expression of the gratitude of the Borough community for these volunteers who have given so selflessly of their time and talent in service to others.

 

The 2024 Mayor’s Volunteer Award recipients are as follows (in alphabetical order):

Fire Department Honored for 100 Years of Service


At the Mayor and Council meeting on December 17, Mayor Kahwaty issued a Proclamation honoring the Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department’s 100th Anniversary. 


The Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department was founded on December 4, 1924, and has been faithfully servicing the residents of Franklin Lakes for 100 years.

Franklin Lakes Commuter Parking Permit Renewal

Due by December 31, 2024


2025 Commuter Parking Permits for the Franklin Lakes Commuter Parking Lot at Parsons Pond Park are now available. Operation Toy Train/Toys for Tots


What a fantastic turnout for the first year that Operation Toy Train stopped in Franklin Lakes. Under the leadership of the Franklin Lakes Girl Scouts and the Mayors Wellness Campaign we were able to donate close to 600 new toys! A very special thank you go to our partners who put out a box for collection, FAMS PLC, FAMS, CRS, HMR, WAS, Borough Hall and Sunrise Senior Living! We look forward to having more locations collecting toys next year. View photos

Recycle Holiday Gift and Shipping Boxes


Cardboard, including gift boxes, cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, and cardboard shipping boxes are all recyclable in your curbside pickup of paper and cardboard. Please break down and flatten any boxes before placing them in a recycling bin, container, or paper bag.

Schedule a Curbside Collection for Bulk Waste, and Metal/Appliance Recycling


Details on curbside collections that need to be scheduled, visit Metal/Large Appliance and Bulk Waste. Residents must schedule a collection by completing a request form for bulk waste and metal and large appliance pick-up no later than10:00 AM the day before the scheduled date of collection.

Donate Bulk Waste Items


Before you place any bulk waste items out for curbside collection, consider donating any furniture or household items. A list of local organizations is available at www.franklinlakes.org/donations.

BCUA Collection Schedule

 

The Bergen County Utilities Authority (BCUA) will conduct Household Hazardous Waste and Tire Recycling, Mobile Paper Shredding, and Electronics/Computer collections. See below chart for all dates.

Christmas Tree Recycling Collection

Friday, January 3 and January 17, 2025


There will be curbside collection of Christmas trees throughout the Borough beginning on Friday, January 3 (collection may take several days) and then beginning again on Friday, January 17. Please be patient as Gaeta works its way through the town which may take a few days. Remove all ornaments and do not place tress in plastic bags. Trees in plastic bags will not be picked up. Do not place Christmas trees in the street.

Mayor and Council Sine Die, Reorganization and Executive Meeting

Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 6:00 PM


The Sine Die (last meeting of 2024), Reorganization and Work Session meetings of the Mayor and Council are scheduled for Thursday, January 2, 2025, beginning at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers. The Mayor and Council agendas will be available prior to the meeting.
