Hello Fellow Residents!
Happy February!
January ended with a few significant events and February has a few important events on the horizon.
We’ll start with the sad news of the passing of Charles (“Al”) Quixley of Lake Terrace Drive. His address is relevant because Al looked after Fletcher Lake as the Commission Chair for many years. Al and his wife Phyllis (who passed in May of 2021) served our community in a variety of ways and loved Bradley Beach. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Last week a fire damaged two homes on Ocean Park Avenue near Ocean Avenue. The fire was managed well by our Bradley Beach Fire and Emergency Teams, along with help from our adjoining towns. As an important safety reminder, please take the necessary fire safety steps as it is related to space heaters and fireplaces during this cold winter.
January was indeed a challenging month from the weather perspective. Our Public Works, Police Department, Emergency Management, EMS, and Fire Teams all worked together during the snowstorms and performed admirably! We are thankful for their hard work in keeping our town safe. To assist them with snow removal, I’ll continue to encourage everyone to conform to the parking restrictions in February so that snow removal goes smoothly. After touring all 24 blocks in town 24-hours after the snow stopped this weekend, I think we have more room for improvement; and we’ll be focusing on adjustments in our “after-action” review this week.
Unfortunately, we have encountered a few large sinkholes emanating from the stormwater pipe coming from Sylvan Lake between Bradley Beach and Avon. We are working with Avon and professionals to assess and remediate the situation. We ask you to avoid this area, it is dangerous; and it can be unstable.
We will have a COVID vaccination “pop-up” event on February 7th at the FireHouse from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Please participate and be vigilant around the latest strain of COVID- OMICRON.
Recently there have been several questions regarding a scheduling change for recycling pick-up. Public works is currently responsible for trash, recycling, bulk trash management and supporting projects to improve the town. We’ll continue to assess their resources and adjust where appropriate. We welcome any constructive input and will keep the public better informed through this process.
The Lareine Avenue Church analysis is moving nicely. A resident team of five people provided great insights to the Engineers and Architects. We expect one of the big deliverables the second week of February. We will quickly follow this initial analysis with public meetings to inform you and discuss next steps-something we have been looking forward to for some time.
We are also currently working on our infrastructure project plans for the town. The sump-pump remediation on the South side of town has been a success; and we want to resume it and complete the project when the weather improves. Our Phase II Sewer project plan is nearing completion; work will start in March.
There are many projects and initiatives going on- your positive impact on our community is much appreciated!!!
Best- Mayor Larry Fox
