February 2023

Greetings Bradley Beach-

I hope everyone is getting through the winter months and staying healthy! So far, besides some increased rain levels and some windy days, we have been fortunate!

I’ll start with our Art’s Councils Winter production this past weekend:

Ellis Island- The Dream of America- Dedicated to the people of Ukraine-

I attended the opening performance- very well done and moving! About 1 hour. Performances are in our beautiful Auditorium at the Elementary School (Brinley Avenue).   Julia Rand and the Arts Council are looking forward to seeing you all!

First performances were last weekend. Final performances this Friday, Saturday, Sunday- February 3rd (7:00PM), 4th (7:00PM) and 5th (2:00PM). The 7 actors, 2 moderators, Music director and other Volunteers have worked hard to bring us a great production- please support the Arts in Bradley Beach!

Lots of Infrastructure projects going on!

Continued improvements to the Beachfront

We just approved funding to repair both the Sylvan Lake and McCabe Avenue outfall pipes.  These are 2 of the 3 pipes that take our stormwater from the streets to the ocean.  We began to see sinkholes last year and will be working on both projects to remediate the problems.  We want to get the McCabe project done by Memorial Day; but the Sylvan Lake project is more extensive and will take longer.  We’ll keep you apprised.

Abraham and Armando of DPW re-leveling the Promenade at Brinley Avenue this past week

Other projects that improve our community:

  • On the Sewer project- we were able to accomplish a lot with paving and new curbs and aprons.  This phase completes early this year.
  • Our Parks- Lake Terrace Park and the areas around the Recreation Center are receiving grants, and we are applying for additional matching grants.
  • Biase Center needed roof repair- more to come on our assets- we need to step-it up.
  • LaReine Avenue Church- cost to raze site in, appraisals in process- more to come in February.

A very important ordinance we are working on for introduction in February is short-term-rentals.

We need better control and visibility of this area.

Updated Recycling Schedules

NJ American Water Temporary Water Treatment Changes

As part of the annual maintenance program NJAM will temporarily change the water treatment process from a chloramine (combination) residual to free chlorine residual at the company’s Swimming River Water Treatment Plant in Colts Neck and its Jumping Brook Water Treatment Plant in Neptune. The temporary treatment process will begin the week of February 6, 2023, and continue until April 2023. During this period, some customers may notice a slight taste and smell of chlorine in their water. This is normal and will only be temporary until the system maintenance is complete. Customers who wish to reduce the taste of chlorine can place water in an uncovered glass container in the refrigerator overnight to dissipate chlorine faster.
