March 2022
Hello Fellow Residents!

We will be ending February and beginning March with great anticipation. The LaReine Avenue Church that we purchased in early 2020 has been the subject of intense analysis since the last quarter of 2021. Our Project Partners- T&M Engineering and DIG Architectural, have provided the first of two deliverables to us. The findings of its analysis and engineering investigation on the building to the governing body and the resident committee has been an important step in the process. By the time of this publication, we would have completed a number of report-outs to our residents that presented three
options for the proposed community center. This moves us towards a final deliverable- the full design and cost recommendation for the site. This will be due to us in April. With that April deliverable, comes some hard work. Analysis, tradeoffs, and framing a recommendation or options to the Community. This will be a big task; but we are committed to it- you have my assurance. We will be “working the problem- NOT the politics”, as I have said from the beginning.
We have continued to focus our attention on a large sinkhole emanating from the stormwater pipe coming from Sylvan Lake between Bradley Beach and Avon. We are working with Avon,
the County, and our Engineering professionals to assess and remediate the situation. We ask you stay away from this area, it is dangerous; and the area can be unstable.

We have been vigilant around the latest strain of COVID-OMICROM. Our numbers in Bradley Beach have gone from a high of 8 cases per day to less than 1 per day. Please continue to follow safe practices as we continue to manage this pandemic and transition into an endemic. This change comes with an eye on prevention and speedy reaction to outbreaks instead of reliance on mandates. This will be our focus on a
county, state, and local level- management instead of emergency response.
What is the difference between a pandemic and an endemic? According to experts, it’s acknowledgement that COVID-19 won’t disappear from the population. We will have to manage COVID like the flu or other chronic infections. This will be our “new normal”. We will succeed as a community- I am sure of
that.

There have been a lot of questions in February around a scheduling change for recycling pick-up. Public works is trying to balance its resources and between regular trash, recycling, and bulk trash management; and supporting projects to improve the town. We’ll continue to assess and adjust where appropriate. We welcome any constructive input and will keep you posted. And YES- we could have communicated the change more effectively! My apologies.
Last, we expect to hear news about THE BRADLEY- our beloved theater on Main Street that has just changed ownership. We are anticipating great things for our THE BRADLEY and our Main Street.

As we pivot from Winter to the Spring of 2022, our efforts are in preparation of another successful summer!
See you around town!

Best- Mayor Larry Fox
