Coronavirus Update: Boston Marathon
Dear Xtra Mile Marathon team,

As a registered runner you should have heard by now from the B.A.A. that the Boston Marathon has been postponed until Monday, September 14th, 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Special Olympics Massachusetts is committed to supporting our team to help each of our runners navigate any issues this change may cause.

Since this news is just breaking, we are still working with our partners to learn what the path forward looks like for all of our runners. At the moment, we are going to look at this as the most positive outcome, because the race will still go on and you will have the opportunity to achieve what you have been training for.

One question that is high on everyone's mind is about the fundraising component of running for the Special Olympics Massachusetts Xtra Mile team. We are extending the fundraising deadline - minimums will not need to be met by April 17th. We hope this helps alleviate some concerns.

Tom Grilk, the CEO of the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced at today's press conference, that any decisions about deferment or transfer of bibs are still forthcoming. As a charity partner organization, we will continue to be in contact with both the B.A.A. and John Hancock and make sure we are able to support any of your needs.

The B.A.A. noted that additional details will be available next week, at which time we will be in touch with how changes will affect the team. When any new information becomes available from the B.A.A. and/or John Hancock, we will be sure to relay it to you ASAP, but in the meantime, if you have any specific questions, please let us know.
