On National Adoption Day, BPAR will be giving new adoptive families a copy of Adoption Is a Lifelong Journey and supporting the adoptions that take place.
BPAR is excited to welcome Erin Weaver as this year's clinical intern! Erin is currently earning her Masters in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in art therapy at Lesley University.
We've added new support groups! In addition to our ongoing adult adoptee support group, we have added two new adult groups, and concurrent groups for children ages 8-11 and parents. We are also planning a group for teens, ages 12-14, to start in 2019.
Two of our adult group leaders, Maya Rogers-Bursen and Lisa Coppola, have recently shared their stories and thoughts about the remarkable impact of group therapy. Read their interviews here: Spotlight on BPAR's Adult Adoptee Group Therapy Leaders
The Search & Reunion Group for ages 18+ focuses on topics related to birth family search and reunion. It offers a safe space for members to discuss and explore issues related to search and reunion. View upcoming schedule here.
Creative writing can be a healing experience, enhancing personal growth through allowing writers to dig deeper into their stories and perhaps make sense of their experiences in a new way. During the Creative Writing Group, members can share their writing on themes of adoption and receive feedback, if desired. This group is for all members of the adoption triad, ages 18+. View upcoming schedule here.
The Children's Adoptee Group offers a safe space for children ages 8 - 11 to meet other children who are adopted and share their stories and experiences through writing, discussion, and activities. Recently, we added a concurrent Parenting Group that meets when the children meet, offering parents a chance to share their stories and experiences with other adoptive parents and caregivers. Sharing Our Book
Last weekend, BPAR was honored to meet the incomparable Darryl McDaniels of Run-D.M.C! He is a pioneer of hip hop culture and an incredible advocate for the Adoption community, and we were so excited to share our book with him! Click here for more information about our book. We can't wait to collaborate more in the future.
