Just a misty May morning on the Greenbrier River

Please Note - We have rescheduled the Botany Walk at the Greenbrier River to May 30th, due to rainy weather. Please keep an eye out for announcements on our facebook page in case of continued inclement weather and rescheduling.

Join West Virginia Rivers Coalition, Greenbrier Watershed, and Greenbrier Valley Pride for Paddle with Pride on the Greenbrier River on Sunday, June 7, 2026 for a relaxed, community-centered float from the public access point at Caldwell, WV to Ronceverte Island Park, followed by an after party at The Sportsman Tavern in Ronceverte, WV. Our goal for this float is to create space for everyone to feel welcome, visible, and at home on the water with us. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or just getting started, this is a space to connect, celebrate, and enjoy one of West Virginia's most beloved rivers together. Getting people on the river is one of the best ways we can protect our water resources. People who spend time outside — building real connections to beloved places like the Greenbrier River — are often the ones most willing to stand up and protect them.

"This photo captures the proportions of the Greenbrier River joining the New at Hinton with bridges spanning each water at Bellepoint. An archipelago of deposition extends downstream as the town hugs the inside of the curve. It is protected from flooding by the Bluestone Dam at bottom of picture. The Wiggins Bridge upstream on the Greenbrier is our lowest test site", Chris Chanlett board member and team leader section 5. Photo by Debbi McNeer who shot this from 27,000 ft at 600 mph

Do you have erosion problems along your stream banks? Thanks to a grant from the Mountain Resource Conservation Development Council, The GRWA has FREE native seed bags to distribute! We have a Riparian Mix capable of surviving wet conditions and periodic flooding, stabilizing stream banks and reducing erosion as well as offering habitat for pollinators & wildlife. We also have a Riparian Buffer seed mix to establish deep-rooted dense vegetation to help stabilize banks, filter pollutants and create wildlife habitat. Email: greenbrierwatershed@gmail.com if you want to pick some up.

Wild Virginia ~ Along with our partners, alliances, and citizens like you, we press on in the fight against fracked gas pipelines in our region. The Mountain Valley Pipeline poses a great risk to our forests and surrounding communities. We are also working to improve habitat connectivity for wildlife throughout Virginia and to ensure that all of our waterways are fully protected in accordance with the law.

Stop the Money Pipeline ~ If we can stop the flow of money, we can stop the flow of oil. In early 2020, thirty-two organizations came together to form the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition. We stand on the shoulders of years of movement work pressuring financial institutions to act on climate.
