Welcome

Happy New Year!

We hope you had a relaxing holiday season and are looking forward to all the promise a new year brings. When the Local Organizing Committee began planning to host Bouchercon in Calgary three years ago, 2026 seemed so far away. Now, 2026 is upon us, and our plans are picking up speed. Everything is coming together nicely, and we’re excited to share our plans for Bouchercon 2026.

Please check our website for more information as events become available.

Enjoy Your Trip!

Vertigo Theatre, Canada's National Theatre for Intrigue and Mystery, will be presenting the World Premiere of THE LODGER, adapted by Susie Moloney and Vern Thiessen, and based on the novel by Marie Adelaide Belloc Lowndes and the Alfred Hitchcock film.

When a series of murders seems to indicate a serial killer is loose, the sudden appearance of a mysterious lodger with lots of money at the home of Ellen and Bill Bunting raises suspicions. This tense suspense/thriller grips audiences, as they try to figure out not only whodunnit, but what they'll do with that knowledge once they find out.

The theatre, located at the base of the Calgary Tower (only a few short steps from the location of Bouchercon 2026) will be holding a special performance for Bouchercon attendees on Tuesday October 20th. Ticket information will be added to the website in the coming months so keep an eye out for it and plan to add it to your itinerary.

Meet the Guests of Honour: Abir Mukherjee

Our International Guest of Honour, Abir Mukherjee, is the author of the Wyndham and Banerjee crime novels set in colonial-era India. His novels have been translated into fifteen languages and have won the CWA Dagger for Best Historical Novel, the Prix du Polar Européen, and the Wilbur Smith Award for Adventure Writing, among other accolades. We are thrilled to have him join us at Bouchercon 2026.

Abir’s newest standalone novel, THE PINNACLE, will be out in June, so mark your calendars or pre-order it today. If you can’t wait, dive into his backlist or check out the podcast he co-hosts, Red Hot Chili Writers.

For more information, visit his website here.

Anthony Awards

Bouchercon 2026 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Anthony Awards. First held in 1986, this prestigious award is presented to the best mystery novels in a variety of categories and is voted on by Bouchercon attendees.

Past winners include S.A. Cosby, Sue Grafton, Thomas Harris, Michael Connelly, Val McDermid, Dennis Lehane, Laura Lippman, William Kent Krueger, Kellye Garrett, and our Lifetime Achievement Guest of Honour, Louise Penny.

Nominations open February 28 and close on April 30, 2026, so curate your reading lists and get ready to submit your favourite mystery novels for a chance to win.

Fun Fact

Calgary is one of the best places to experience Chinook winds in Canada. This warm wind blows down the Eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, drying and warming Pacific air as it descends and can raise the temperature by twenty degrees in a matter of hours, even in the coldest months.
