There is a great deal of debate about the relationship between compatibility of democracy and capitalism. All wealthy, developed, capitalist societies are stable advanced democracies. There is no doubt that democracy and capitalism can coexist in the developed world, but it is not clear that they coexist comfortably in the rest of the world. This talk explores why capitalism and democracy effectively coexist in some societies, but not others.
