August 1st is Colorado Day!

Colorado Day is an annual observance held on August 1 that marks the anniversary of Colorado’s admission to the Union as the 38th state in 1876. It originated because the territory achieved statehood during the year of the United States’ centennial, which is why Colorado is known as the Centennial State. For Coloradans, the day is a source of state pride that highlights their unique history, rugged landscapes, and independent spirit, often celebrated with community events, outdoor activities, and reflections on the state’s heritage. Boulder County Needs Republican Election Judges and Election Watchers for the General Election in November!

Boulder County is asking Republicans to step up and serve as Election Judges and Election Watchers in the General Election in November!

What do Election Judges do?

They are temporary, paid election workers who help run elections.

Main Duties of Election Judges

They are bipartisan (teams always include both Democrats and Republicans) and perform a wide range of tasks:

• At Vote Centers (on Election Day):
• Check in voters and verify identification when required.
• Issue ballots and assist voters with voting machines or accessible voting options.
• Help with curbside voting and provisional ballots.
• Manage lines and maintain order at polling locations.
• Mail Ballot Processing:
• Signature verification on mail ballots.
• Ballot duplication (when a ballot is damaged or hard to read).
• Sorting and scanning ballots.
• Other Roles:
• Ballot runners (transporting ballots securely).
• Outdoor ballot box attendants.
• Voter registration and address updates.
• Setting up and closing down Vote Centers.

What do Election Watchers do?

These are observers appointed to watch the process, not run it.

• Appointed by candidates, political parties, or issue committees.
• Their role is to observe and verify that the election is conducted fairly and according to law.
• They can be present during key activities, including:
• Setup and operation of Vote Centers
• Voter check-in and ballot issuance
• Mail ballot processing and signature verification
• Ballot scanning and tabulation
• They must stay in designated areas, cannot interfere with voters or election judges, and have rules on how close they can get and what they can do
• They provide transparency and an extra layer of public oversight

Don't let the Democrats do all the judging and watching!

About the Speaker: Mayra Rodriguez is the former director of three Planned Parenthood clinics and was honored as the organization’s 2016 Employee of the Year. After 17 years in leadership, she came forward as a whistleblower, reporting serious safety, ethical, and legal violations she witnessed within the clinics she oversaw. These concerns included incomplete abortions, falsified patient records, unreported statutory rape, and unusually high complication rates associated with a specific abortion provider.

Rather than addressing these issues, Planned Parenthood responded with hostility and retaliation. In 2019, a predominantly pro‑choice jury unanimously ruled that Mayra had been wrongfully terminated for her whistleblowing, awarding her $3 million in damages.

Mayra attributes her courage and perseverance to her renewed faith, strengthened by the prayers of those who stood outside her clinics and by the grace of Divine Mercy.

Today, she is a respected national advocate for women’s health and a compelling voice for the dignity and protection of human life.

For this newsletter, I'm sharing a letter that one of our Vice Chairmen, David Brown, wrote about his conclusion as the 2026 Primary Election Canvass Board member.

Dear Editors,

Once again, the representative for the Boulder County Republicans on the Boulder County canvass board cannot in good conscience certify the 2026 primary election in Colorado that cannot be comprehensively verified. We do not believe any county in Colorado should certify these elections. The problem is not the people running the elections — Boulder County’s staff are highly trained professionals. The problem is the system they are required to operate, a system that is controlled and aggressively defended by Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

Colorado’s election structure has been locked down to the point where meaningful oversight is impossible. Secretary of State Jena Griswold has chosen to rely on proprietary voting systems whose source code cannot be examined by counties, canvass boards, or candidates. SB 22-153 further entrenched these restrictions, ensuring that no independent verification of the software is possible. Under this framework, we cannot examine ballot images or compare them to the actual ballots. Moreover, a chain of custody is only as strong as its weakest link. A ballot should not disappear into the mailbox only to later reappear at a counting facility, with the public expected to simply trust what happened in between.

This lack of transparency is not theoretical. It has real consequences. While canvassing in Boulder prior to the primary, we identified a commercial location in Boulder with zero beds, where nine people were registered to vote. Were nine ballots mailed to an address where no one lives? Under Colorado’s current rules, counties must send ballots to any address listed in the voter file, even when that address is clearly a space where no one lives. When issues like this arise, canvass boards have no authority to investigate, no ability to examine underlying records, and no mechanism to verify whether those ballots were cast legitimately. We are expected to certify anyway.

Even candidates who pay enormous sums for recounts are denied basic transparency. Not even Tina Peters, who paid over $250,000 for a statewide recount, was allowed access to ballot images to verify her election. Isn’t that the point of a recount? In Colorado, a recount is simply the same “garbage in, garbage out” process that counts the ballots the first time. No new methodologies are allowed.

A canvass board cannot certify what it cannot verify. Yet Griswold demands certification while denying the tools required to perform it. SB 22-153 did not strengthen election security; it asserted the Secretary of State’s control while eliminating independent oversight.

Colorado officials often urge voters to “trust the process.” We are required to trust that ballots are mailed to people legally authorized to receive them. Trust should have no role where verification is possible. Trust is what you rely on when you cannot check for yourself. Every critical step should be independently auditable. Trust should be the exception only where absolutely necessary, not the foundation of election verification.

Colorado needs real reform. Counties must be allowed full transparency to verify voter registration records so obvious problems like ballots mailed to commercial addresses can be corrected before ballots go out. Ballot images should be available to canvass boards and candidates so they can compare them to the physical ballots. Voting systems should be open to independent inspection, whether through open-source software or through controlled access to the code that counts our votes. Recounts should involve a real review of voter intent, not simply running the same ballots through the same machines. And above all, Colorado needs a Secretary of State who supports independent verification instead of blocking it.

Until Colorado restores transparency, accountability, and the ability to verify election results, certification is nothing more than a rubber stamp. The Boulder County Republicans are not a rubber stamp.
