Boulder County Resident Loves her Heat Pump!

Like many homeowners, Deb Kershner didn’t know much about heat pumps and wasn’t sure they were a good fit for her house. But when she recently remodeled her home and installed solar, she also researched options beyond gas-powered HVAC systems. After talking it through with her contractor, Kershner decided to take advantage of available rebates and installed an air-source heat pump.

Since her renovations, Kershner has had to make some changes to how she cools and heats her home—but they are changes for the better. "I have four different zones in my home," says Kershner, "which is nice because I don’t have to heat rooms I’m not using." And since she also has solar and new windows and insulation, her energy bills stay low (between $100-$150 per month for her 2600 square foot home) even in the middle of winter. Kershner also loves that the outside unit is much quieter than a traditional AC unit, especially when friends come for an outdoor dinner.

As the weather in Colorado starts to cool, Kershner knows her heat pump will keep her cozy all winter long. "When we had the cold snap back in January where it was in the negatives for a few days, I set the thermostat up to maybe 68, and that’s all I needed to do. Plus," she says, "it’s the right thing to do for the planet – and the rebates and incentives help!"

Many Coloradans are joining Kershner and making the switch to electric or hybrid HVAC systems EnergySmart has great rebates for heat pumps which are stackable with state, federal, and utility rebates to make switching more affordable than ever before. Check out our website to learn more.

Are you interested in switching from cooking with gas to electricity, but unsure if induction is right for you? EnergySmart offers a free, two-week loan of portable induction cooktops and compatible cookware for residents to try cooking with induction technology!

Induction cooktops are the most efficient electric cooking technology and can deliver better cooking performance than gas. Induction cooking is faster, easy to control, and safer than cooking with gas or propane. In addition, because the surface does not heat up (only the pans and food), it is very easy and safe to clean up any spills.

Cooktops can be picked up at locations in downtown Boulder, Longmont, Louisville, and Lyons. To sign up for the lending program, please complete this sign-up form. Contact an EnergySmart advisor at info@energysmartyes.com with any questions.

Help Ensure Energy Affordability in Colorado & Support Energy Outreach Colorado

Energy Outreach Colorado’s (EOC) mission is to ensure that all Coloradans can afford their home energy by addressing the barriers that lead to the persistence of nearly 25% of households struggling with energy insecurity.

EOC many programs, including Colorado's Affordable Residential Energy program (CARE), energy bill assistance, and community solar subscriptions, ensure that income-qualified households have the necessary support to afford their home’s energy. The need for EOC’s assistance is significant, and every year we see more requests than we can meet due to funding limitations.

Your support allows us to help meet current and future demands by stabilizing homes and securing a brighter future for families in need through EOC’s services.
