Greetings!
Greetings from Ely
Today we are enjoying a day of sunshine in the 60s. We are happy to be working outdoors, prepping our rental fleet of canoes. Our latest report on larger lakes in the area shows approximately 15 inches of ice. The last few nights were around 30 degrees so the last vestiges of Winter are hanging on.
The honest answer about when the ice will go out and if it will be out by Minnesota Walleye Fishing Opener weekend, May 14th, is that there's no way to know. It will happen, when it happens. With the next ten days forecast to be in the highs of 60 or more, we stand a good chance of ice on the smaller lakes to disappear soon, but we will have to wait and see.
There's also a lot of melt water and some flooding within the forest and that is having a bearing on travel.
Here's a recent note from the:
ROAD CLOSURE : Grassy Creek Road, known as Grassy Lake Road or Forest Road 459, is closed approximately 2.7 miles from the beginning of the road due to flooding and several feet of standing water. Mudro entry points off of the Grassy Creek Road are inaccessible at this time. For BWCAW visitors with Mudro Lake entry point permits reservations will be automatically fully refunded through May 10. Forest Service staff are working on repairing the culverts and will re-open the road once it is passable.
We've got some great closeout items that we are selling as inventory reduction items or that we are replacing with new colors and styles. The links below go right to our newest sale pages online. Enjoy. When they are gone, they are gone, we can't take back orders on them.
Happy Thursday :)
