When I began as director of Women’s Ministries my number one desire was to work with the board to formulate a mission statement. It is crucial that you think about where you want to be before you decide how you are going to get there.
Through much prayer the board formulated the following statement “
Inspiring and empowering women to find their full God potential”.
The first word in that statement is inspiring. According to Webster’s definition inspiring means “create a feeling, especially a positive one in someone”. The definition goes on to say it can motivate, persuade, encourage, influence, energize and move to action. If you think about that definition the word inspiring can pack a pretty big punch. Our emotions will move us to do a lot of different things. On Sunday mornings in my church I facilitate a Life Connect class and, in that class, I talk a lot about passion. Basically, if your heart is not in it you will not be successful in what ever you are pursuing.
So first, let’s evaluate where is your heart? When you read about the accomplishments of students at GBBC in the Philippines do you fill with excitement and think I must be a part of that? When you see the face of one of our children at Faith Home do you think about how many opportunities there are to be part of that ministry that really doesn’t cost very much? What about Mexico? How can you watch the news and not think about the opportunities for General Baptists in that country? Bring in closer to home. Our National Missions Church plants are changing lives every single week. That is inspiring.
Remember the definition of inspiring…. create a feeling, motivate, persuade and most important move to action. Someone told me one time that if you pray for a passion for someone or something God will honor that request. Pray that prayer. I will warn you it can be dangerous! I prayed that prayer and God called me to Honduras.
Passion means move to action.
Who can you inspire? Share the stories of the mission field with those in your church or groups. There are plenty of stories out there. If you want to hear some, we have plenty to share.
Let’s keep on telling the story and inspiring those around us! What a story we have to share.
