School is in full swing. The fall equinox is Monday, September 23, 2019. Our holiday season is just around the corner. Where are you in all of this?
Do you sometimes feel alone as you face the nighttime sky?
Imagining the overwhelming things that seem to magnify?
Life can be so very tough; it makes me want to scream.
Shall I instead reflect only on my daydreams?
There must be somewhere in between where contentment can be found.
Is it in the day to day duties of family, work and life to expound?
Perhaps it’s in each moment we seek to find joy, laughter, and love.
Oh how hard this can be when we want them to fit like a glove.
But, look around you, dear friends, and dare to see the good.
Whether grace, patience, or gentle deed, ah, don’t expect sainthood.
A helping hand, a prepared meal, a heart-felt thank you sent,
Each act of kindness from a well-meaning heart is our time well spent.
Giver or receiver we may be, in both we choose the how.
Accepting, affirming, expected or not, let’s not disavow.
Be the first to give a helping hand, without thought of a return.
”Pay it forward” it is said, that adage is our good turn.
Perhaps it’s in the giving where we find our true contentment.
Night falls and duties remain, the challenge is to be mindful and present.
We shall be blessed as we bless others, it’s the golden rule.
Empathy and goodwill we must spread because our world is cruel.
I hope this poem helps you center and focus on the final months of 2019. It’s never too late to make changes, choose mindfulness, and lend a helping hand. When I challenge you, I challenge myself.
