Summer in Action
Updates from the Garden and Beyond
Our team has been hard at work this July, we’ve been busy with activities from volunteer events to engaging in community outreach and partnerships. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
We hosted 12 community groups in the garden who came out to lend a hand and share in our mission. Among them was Grace Church, whose members participated in their wider community give-back event, "Reno Love Day." Volunteers helped paint our new storage containers, spread compost, pick up trash, trim garlic, and contribute to other meaningful garden projects. We also welcomed groups like the UNR Graduate Student Association and the Healing Healthcare Company. We appreciate our community partners, they help us maximize our programs and expand our efforts.
Our infrastructure has also seen exciting progress. Volunteers, led by our dedicated staff, helped put the final touches on our third hoop house. All of our hoop houses have been funded by American AgCredit. The hoop houses have allowed our growing seasons to expand and enable us to produce food beyond the short Nevada growing season.
This month our team also attended the Nevada Urban Indian back-to-school tabling event where we distributed approximately 150 pounds of fresh food. Families received fresh nutrient dense food including garlic, onions and leafy greens. Events like these and partnerships with organizations like Nevada Urban Indians are vital to our mission and help us reach even more communities facing food insecurity.
Every volunteer, donor, and partner helps turn fresh produce into lasting change. We’re endlessly grateful for your continued support.
Want to support Soulful Seeds but can’t make it out to the garden? No problem! By becoming a monthly donor, you can still provide support year-round, helping to grow our work and programs.
