New Orleans Streetcar

NOPSI 913 is in the original NEW ORLEANS PUBLIC SERVICE INC scheme and configuration. Car 913 was sent to the Orange Empire Railway Museum in 1964 after the Canal Street Car line was abandoned and then sold in 2005 to San Francisco after Katrina.

New Orleans Streetcar Red

Car 451 was originally New Orleans 919 and was in the same paint scheme as 913. In 1964, it went to the Texas State Fairgrounds until the mid-1980s when a committee "Bring Our Streetcars Home" (BOSH) brought it and another car, formerly 924, back to New Orleans for use on the RiverFront Line where it ran until 1997. 924 would become 450 and serve along with 451. The Riverfront Line was an abandoned L&N freight line and was standard gauge. New Orleans streetcars are wide gauge, 5' 2 1/4" (same as Philadelphia) so the car was standard gauged at that time. When the decision was made to make the Riverfront Line wide gauge also, this car was pulled out of service.
