Back to Bricks Promo Tour Coming to Boyne City This Weekend
.
This year is the 11th Annual Back to the Bricks Promo Tour, which takes attendees to five different stops throughout Michigan in order to promote and enjoy the beautiful state, stimulate local economies through supporting small businesses, and promote the Back to the Bricks main event in August in Flint, Mich. The event brings both money spent on food, lodging, gas and souvenirs from tour attendees as well as those who visit downtown to see the event. Tour participants often revisit the cities visited for a personal vacation and encourage family and friends to visit and enjoy the area.

In addition to the car show taking place THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 6th from 1-4 p.m, the following bands are scheduled to play downtown:
Full Circle – Located at corner of Water & East Streets
Northern Nites – Located at Harbor House Publishers
Dr. Goodhart – Located at corner of Water & Park Streets
De Railed – Located at corner of Water & Lake Streets
Jon Archambault Band – Located at corner of Lake & Ray Streets
James Greenway Band – Located at corner of Lake & Main Streets

There will be a car event taking place at Classic Instruments on Saturday, June 5th as well, sponsored by BC Pizza and BC Lanes/The Venue Sports Bar & Grill. Check back for more details on that.

Registration Open for 45th Annual Independence Day Run

Registration is open for the 45th Annual Independence Day Run. The 2021 race was planned before the announcement of outdoor COVID restrictions being lifted on July 1st. As a result, this year’s race features a two-mile fun run at 7:30am, and not the traditional accompanying 10k. The race will now start and finish at Peninsula Beach Park, instead of its normal starting location in years’ past. 2021’s race is limited to the first 500 participants and no mail in registrations will be accepted, only online registrations. To register click here

Although we had to modify for 2021, there will still be race t-shirts, sponsored by Pat O’Brien & Associates, finisher medals, free online finish photos/videos, a chip start and professional finish line. Please rest assured, we are confident we’ll be back to our normal 1,500 racers for a 10k and two-mile in 2022!

Community Foundation Names New Accountant

Matt Greer has been selected to serve the Charlevoix County Community Foundation as its new Accountant. Matt, currently employed by Kammermann & Bascom, PC, will succeed Laura Hansen, who is retiring in July after serving as the Community Foundation’s Accountant for all the organization’s 29 years.
“We’re delighted to welcome Matt to our team,” said Chip Hansen, President of the Community Foundation. “He has the right blend of experience, know-how and personality to continue to grow and strengthen the financial side of our organization.”
Greer earned an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences - Accounting from North Central Michigan College and a Bachelors Degree in Applied Sciences - Accounting from Lake Superior State University. He is currently pursuing an MBA. A native of Petoskey, Greer sees his new role at the Community Foundation as an opportunity to join a mission-driven organization whose work benefits the community in so many ways, while continuing to offer accurate and timely service to nonprofit partners, friends of the Community Foundation and others.
“I look forward to working with donors, grantees, and community partners,” Matt said, adding, “the Community Foundation is so well-respected, and the opportunity to be a part of its future growth and impact was something I couldn’t pass up.” “This feels like a perfect match for me,” he noted. “I’ll be able to continue to do what I love to do and make a meaningful contribution to the broader Charlevoix County community at the same time.”
Matt will assume his new position in mid-June. He will work alongside Laura Hansen until her retirement in mid-July to ensure a smooth transition.
Established in 1992 by a group of civic leaders, the Charlevoix County Community Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to improving and enhancing life for all who live in the area. Local volunteers serve as trustees, and a youth advisory committee addresses issues related to youth in the community.
The Community Foundation accepts gifts of all sizes and for many purposes. Those contributions are professionally managed to generate income that is used to make grants supporting worthwhile programs, projects, and initiatives right here at home. Currently, more than 270 separate funds make up the Community Foundation, each one created by an individual, family, business, or nonprofit agency. With current assets of $55 million, the Community Foundation has made grants totaling more than $30 million since it began.
More information about the Community Foundation is available by calling (231) 536-2440, or visiting the organization’s website, www.c3f.org.
