BOYNE VALLEY TRAIL GROOMED & READY

Last spring the Boyne Valley Trail (BVT) was opened to the public providing a roughly seven (7) mile long non-motorized linear park trail from the City of Boyne City to the Village of Boyne Falls. Recently the continued partnership between the City of Boyne City and Boyne Mountain formalized a winter trail grooming plan for the many users.
This week the BVT has been groomed (see photo) from the trailhead, near the City Airport along Lagoon Drive, all the way to Boyne Mountain. The plan to groom the trail was initiated by the City Parks & Recreation Commission members back in December 2020. The goal of the Commission was to “afford residents and visitors more options to get out and enjoy our wonderful outdoors”. Members of the Parks & Recreation Commission felt this was especially important with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic restrictions.
Now that the outdoor temperatures are returning to normal levels for the next few weeks, the City expects users to hit the trail. The BVT winds its way out of the City of Boyne City along the top bank of the Boyne River Valley easterly to the old railway grade that parallels M-75 to the Village of Boyne Falls. The trail will be groomed regularly for the rest of the winter season as follows:
1. The westerly segment from M-75 (near the Boyne Valley School) to the City Airport trailhead will be groomed by volunteers using equipment purchased by the City of Boyne City. Our good colleagues at Challenge Mountain have loaned one of their snowmobiles to the City to assist with the grooming effort until the City receives the rest of its grooming equipment.
2. The easterly segment from M-75 (near the Boyne Valley School) to US-131 will be groomed by the staff at Boyne Mountain.
New signs (see photo) will be installed along the BVT to help users choose the right portion of the trail to use. The 10-12’ wide groomed trail will provide a dedicated lane for skate skiing, classic cross country skiing and a multi-use lane for fat tire biking/hiking/snow shoeing. The City hopes users will abide by the designated lanes so everyone maximizes their experience in using the Boyne Valley Trail. Motorized vehicles, other than the required trail grooming equipment, are strictly prohibited on the Boyne Valley Trail.
If you have any questions or comments please contact Tim Faas, Director of Public Works at 231/582-0375 or via email at maintenance@boynecity.com
4Front Credit Union wins MemberXP 2021 Best of the Best Award

MemberXP, a member experience solution from CU Solutions Group, has named 4Front Credit Union one of their 2021 Best of the Best award winners.

The coveted Best of the Best awarded is given each year to credit unions that have consistently provided exceptional member service, as reported by their own members. Only the highest-performing credit unions utilizing the MemberXP platform are given this honor. The Best of the Best award is independently granted by MemberXP based on specific and rigorous criteria. Taking into consideration the extreme challenges of delivering extraordinary member service during a nation-wide pandemic and economic crisis, this year’s award winners reflect some of the most agile and responsive credit unions.

MemberXP is a platform that allows credit union members to provide immediate feedback on the service they receive. Serving credit unions in the United States and Canada, MemberXP uses mystery shoppers and member surveys to gauge the overall member experience across multiple delivery channels, then deliver that data on an intuitive dashboard. The platform tracks specific experiences, such as applying for a loan, conducting a transaction — mobile, online or in branch — or opening a new account, and turns qualitative data into quantifiable and actionable information for the credit union.

“Our more than 88,000 members at 15 branches across northern Michigan deserve to do business with a financial institution that respects them and works in their best interest,” said Andy Kempf, 4Front CEO. “MemberXP has allowed us to not only ask our members for their honest feedback, but to also learn from it and take action to make changes, allowing for the best experience possible. At 4Front we seek to provide excellent service to make the lives our members easier. I’m proud to say we are utilizing the technology behind MemberXP to strive for that every single day.”

"Throughout the last year, credit unions have once again shown they are willing to go above and beyond to connect and serve their members, no matter the challenges,” said Dave Adams, president and CEO of CU Solutions Group. “Every year the Best of the Best awards turns our attention to the trailblazers in our industry, that are truly dedicated to delivering brand-defining experiences and unparalleled member service dedication.”

About 4Front Credit Union
4Front Credit Union is an award winning member-owned financial cooperative serving more than 88,000 members across the state of Michigan. We grew from the combined resources of two institutions steeped in member advocacy and locally focused service. Boyne City Field of Dreams Appoved

The Boyne City City Commission gave the go-ahead on Tuesday to a large scale renovation project of the city’s waterfront little league field.

The proposal had previously gotten a unanimous recommendation for approval from the Parks and Recreation Commission.

“This project has been in the works for a number of months now, but most recently at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting the Boyne City Little League group made a presentation with a considerable amount of detail about their plan to rebuild the existing waterfront field behind city hall,” said Tim Faas, director of Public Works.

NETWORKS NORTHWEST Awards
$2,375,000 in Small Business Survival Grants

NORTHWEST LOWER, MI – Through the Michigan Strategic Fund and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), $2,375,000 in Michigan Small Business Survival Grant Program dollars is being provided to many Northwest Michigan small businesses that experienced a significant financial hardship due to the COVID-19 emergency “gatherings and face mask order” issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in December 2020.

The Northwest Small Business Survival Grant Collaborative consisting of Networks Northwest, Northern Lakes Economic Alliance, Northwest Michigan Works!, Northwest Small Business Development Center, Traverse Connect, Alliance for Economic Success, and Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce reviewed nearly 800 applications for grants up to $20,000. The Collaborative was able to award grants to 181 small businesses and nonprofits across Northwest Michigan with an average amount of $13,122.

An objective review of all applications included criteria set forth by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, including need, the size of the business, COVID-19 impact, and previous profitability. The local scoring teams also considered the historical, cultural, or community significance of some organizations as well as ensuring the equitable distribution of funds across all counties in the region.

“Every organization has been impacted in one way or another by COVID-19 in the last 10 months," said Matt McCauley, CEO of Networks Northwest. “However, some businesses have been harder hit than others, specifically those who had to limit their operations based on most recent DHHS orders. These dollars are a much needed boost for some of our area’s employers, but the need by our business community still exceeds what any one program can provide. I look forward to the near term where businesses can hopefully resume regular operations and begin to recover, rebuild, and thrive again.”

To see the full list of businesses in Northwest Michigan that received Survival Grants, visit nwm.org/grants.

We often think of Lent as a time for giving up some luxury or treat or a bad habit, like giving up chocolate, or stopping biting one’s nails. Those are good things to do. And Lent can be deeper: it can be a time when we turn off the TV or radio or social media, so we can turn off the churning of ideas, thoughts, worries in our heads. Then in some silence, we can rest in the renewing and re-forming love of God for us.
