Greetings from Tricia, your new Executive Director!

Hello to my fellow community members and Chamber businesses!

I am honored and excited to step into this new role and look forward to getting to know you all in the coming months!

As we navigate this transition, we will be taking a short two week break from the weekly newsletter to gather our thoughts and make any necessary updates.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 231-582-6222, director@boynechamber.com, or stop in and say hello!

I look forward to seeing you all around town and learning about how we can better serve our members moving forward.

PUBLIC LOGIC AND ACCURACY TESTING

The City of Boyne City will be conducting Public Logic and Accuracy testing on Thursday, October 10 at 9:00 a.m. in the lobby at City Hall. During this time, the tabulators used for both in-person voting and the Absentee Voter Counting Board will be tested. This test is designed to provide an overview of the election night vote counting process and to verify that the ballot counting program prepared for the election is properly reading and tabulating votes. The public is welcome, and encouraged to attend!

Great Lakes Energy Lineworkers Travel to Florida for Hurricane Milton Restoration Efforts

Over the weekend, Florida Electric Cooperative Association reached out to electric cooperative leaders in Michigan and other cooperatives across the country asking for help in anticipation of Hurricane Milton. More than 15 states answered the call, with some coming as far away as Utah and North Dakota. Nearly 30 Michigan co-op lineworkers have packed up their gear and headed south, ready to restore power and hope. The four pictured above are employees of Great Lakes Energy, our local electric co-op serving rural areas of 26 counites in the state.

This is a reminder of how communities, bound by the spirit of cooperation, come together in times of crisis. Lineworkers from across our state and the country are on their way, staying up to two weeks in Florida, to ensure that when the storm clears, the lights come back on—and neighbors won’t be left in the dark.

Sail Charlevoix Online Auction

Sail Charlevoix is excited to announce our upcoming online auction featuring a variety of bags and totes from Sea Bags and from the ALOHA Collection. We have kept old sails out of the landfill by trading the sailing school’s worn sails for merchandise from Sea Bags, Charlevoix. We are also thrilled to have received a variety of new ALOHA Collection bags from a generous donor.

From Oct. 7-21, you can bid on these unique bags made out of recycled sails and from splash-proof tech material.

Top bids for each item will go directly towards furthering our mission of sailing education and offering our community access to sailing opportunities.

HOW TO BID

Visit their website or social media pages on Oct. 7 to begin placing your bids.

Pet of the Week - Meet Diego!

This happy little meatball is Diego! You can always find this chunky monkey with a big smile on his face. Diego came to us as a surrender after his owner unfortunately passed away, and he is ready to bounce out of here. The shelter is not the best of places for an old man like him, as he'd like to live out his retirement in his own loving home. Diego seems to be good with other dogs, and shelter staff thinks that he would likely do just fine in a household with cats. Don't let his size fool you, this little man loves to go on walks just as much as he loves his naps. If Diego sounds like the perfect pet for you, fill out an application in person at the shelter or online today!
