Taste of Boyne will kick off Restaurant Week in April
For our valued restaurants and food merchants:
We are excited to invite you to be a part of Boyne Appétit! Restaurant Week. We know we have the very best food-based establishments and restaurants in Northern Michigan and we want EVERYONE else to know it, too. The simple truth: Small town. Epic Food.
Because we listened to your feedback, we are adding some excitement to this fun week and will be doubling our efforts for the promotion of this event, which includes on-air ads, radio ads, rack cards, and poster distribution. We want to be sure that your name is included where possible!
There will be only one Restaurant Week this year and it will be held April 24th through May 3rd. Your participation in Restaurant Week is free, of course, so please complete this Restaurant Week registration form and return it no later than March 1st.
To kick-off our Restaurant Week, we are excited to offer a new event: The Taste of Boyne. This is designed to invite the community for a food tasting but also to allow you and your business the opportunity to taste and mingle with others in your line of work. Held at the Boyne Mountain Civic Center on Thursday, April 23, 2020, from 5:30 until 8:30, there will be no participation cost for your establishment and we ask that you provide "tastes" of your choice for 300 people, in addition to the appropriate staff to work the event. The Taste of Boyne registration form needs to be returned before March 1st. This form is separate from the Restaurant Week form.
But that's not all that is new! In an effort to promote your business year round, the folks that attend Taste of Boyne (there is an entrance fee for attending) will be receiving a punch card that is good for a year. This card will be taken to participating merchants and when ten $10 purchases are made, they will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate. To do this well, we are asking you to provide us a $50 Gift Certificate prior to the Taste of Boyne evening. By doing so, your establishment will be listed on the punch card. Once a card holder has completed their card, they will be entered for our monthly drawing for one of the provided gift cards.
Lastly, we have included a Sponsor Opportunities form that outlines ways for your business to sponsor this event. We hope you will take the time to consider that.
As always, feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.
Take our survey and give us your input on Chocolate Covered Boyne
Thank you for joining Boyne City Main Street at Chocolate Covered Boyne! We would really appreciate you taking a few minutes to fill out our survey about the event so we can continue to improve it.
New Spuds store receives $25,000 grant from MEDC
Boyne City is one of nine communities around Michigan that have been awarded a total of $250,000 in grants aimed at supporting small local businesses, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced this week. Spuds Boyne, a new retail store featuring furniture and home décor, was awarded a $25,000 grant, which is being matched with $57,000 in private investment. The new store is projected to open soon in the former Sportsman Bar location on North Lake Street, creating three full-time jobs and one part-time job.
Introduced in 2019, the Match on Main program was intended to provide grants of between $5,000 and $25,000 to Select or Master level Michigan Main Street communities for eligible businesses. Projects could include interior building renovations, furniture and fixtures, permanent equipment, point of sale systems, marketing expenses, and inventory. Eligible businesses must also have worked with the Michigan Small Business Development Center on a business plan.
"Healthy small businesses are a vital component of our downtowns," said MEDC Senior Vice President of Community Development Michele Wildman. "These grants will help local businesses grow, further strengthening the commercial districts in these communities, while developing vibrant, unique, and attractive places where people want to live, work, and play."

Café offers 5-week series, "Friends With God"
Beginning in March the content offered at the Lifetree Café will focus on a discipleship series titled, "Friends With God." Each episode includes a video presentation and discussion in a fun and engaging environment. It is non-denominational in nature and utilizes the friendship model of relationship found taught by Jesus in John 15:15. "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."
This isn't like any discipleship program you've seen before. There's no gritting your teeth and trying harder to be perfect. Or checking items off a "Good Christians Do This" list. Instead, we'll just get to know Jesus better and let our friend do what he does best: transform us from the inside out. And you're invited. Whether you've been a believer for decades, just met Jesus in the parking lot, or aren't sure he's even real, you're invited. Come take your next step into deeper joy. Soul-soothing peace. And a life of purpose. Come be a disciple. Come be a friend of God.
Join the conversation at Lifetree Café, located at 401 S. Park St. in Boyne City. The program begins March 1 and runs through April 5 at 3:30 p.m. each Sunday.
