Lake County, Illinois, home to over 718,000 residents - roughly 162,000 of whom are under 18 - benefits from the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County, one of the area’s largest youth development organizations, which supports 600 students every day through after-school and summer programs at 11 Club locations in Waukegan, North Chicago, Great Lakes, and Gurnee.
| | Celebrating 100 Days of School! | | |
To mark the 100th day of school, young learners at one of our Waukegan school sites got creative - and a little whimsical - by imagining their future selves.
Instead of just talking about the future, they created colorful pictures of themselves at 100 years old, imagining where life might take them, the adventures they would have, and who they’d become. Each piece reflects the students’ creativity, sense of humor, and big dreams.
The 100th Day of School reminded everyone that the future is full of possibilities…and a little imagination goes a long way!

Celebrating Young Voices Through Creative Expression
During a recent Club activity, 3rd and 4th graders took a moment to reflect on what truly matters to them. On carefully cut out paper hands, they wrote about their passions, their values, and the things that make them who they are.
These hands are more than just paper - they’re windows into our students’ worlds, showcasing their individuality, creativity, and unique perspectives. Through this activity, each child had the chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate their own story.
At the Boys & Girls Club, we believe every child deserves the space to explore, express, and discover their potential. These paper hands are a powerful reminder that every voice matters - and every story is worth sharing.

Stay Tuned! Our Black History Month Showcase on Thursday, February 12 will bring together youth from multiple Club sites - including Genesee, LEARN 6, LEARN 9, LEARN 10, North Elementary, and Oakdale Elementary. Participating youth have been preparing performances, including poems, dances, and songs, to honor Black history, celebrate cultural identity, and showcase the strength of their communities.
This event is designed to elevate voices, build confidence, and deepen understanding of Black history and culture. While not every site will perform, all youth and families are invited to attend, support their peers, and enjoy a community cultural dinner. It’s a meaningful opportunity for creative expression, cultural pride, and shared celebration.
