Girls Time and Sisonke Boys Meet for First Time and Keep It Real
While it has become common in the US to debate gender roles, this rarely happens in Southern Africa... unless you're a member of a GSGC girls or boys club! We are excited to share the first of what we hope are many such discussions.

Excerpt from Girls Time Auntie Mercy Sibanda recounting the impact.

The visit gave both the girls and boys a platform to exchange their thoughts, experiences and all they have acquired throughout the year in their clubs. Gender equality and gender roles seemed to be an interesting topic as they went on sharing and asking questions amongst themselves.

"It is indeed a pleasant surprise to have been visited by the girls at our Safe Space," says Nqobile, a member of the boys club. "It really means a lot to us as we are getting to know them better and also understand what we can do to make their lives better."

GSGC Field Director Smokey Dube visited clubs recently to present certificates and prizes to the participants and winners of the I AM AN AFRICAN GIRL contest. 

This video of grand prize winner Violet Malambo, 16, receiving her iPhone inspired donor AnnMarie Haldeman to write, “This is priceless. It actually made me cry. Something we all take for granted -- that we carelessly think is so common place such as a phone -- can make such an impact.”
Art Sales Donated to GSGC
For the second year in a row, Vancouver, Washington-based artist Russell Ford is donating the proceeds from "Casting a Wider Net" - a collection of unique ceramic fish inspired by his time with the vibrant artists at Wayi Wayi Art Gallery and girls club in Livingstone, Zambia. So far, close to $2,000 has been raised this year!
