MORE ANTI-LANDLORD BIAS

Since May 2023, the Rental Housing Board has only had one real landlord among its eleven members. With no counter to the bias from tenant activists, landlords will face even more discrimination as the Rent Board has already begun hearing petitions for rent reduction.

Meanwhile, the online workbook for initiating requests for a fair rate of return for property owners (as constitutionally required under federal and state law) is riddled with errors and is fundamentally unfit for purpose. This attack on property rights stems from the Rent Board's failure to meet its deadlines and its outsourcing of work to incompetent consultancies and activist law firms.

Write to your City Council member to let them know that the Rent Board continues to breach California's constitution and is therefore placing the City of Pasadena at legal risk.

LET'S BUILD A FAIR & EQUITABLE RENTAL HOUSING BOARD

Following the appointment of only one real landlord to the Rent Board, punitive decisions are being made without any insight into the longterm challenges to housing providers and the rental industry.

Now we can do something about it.

Two At-Large positions are reaching the end of their first terms in office, and both seats are currently held by tenant activists. We need landlords appointed to those 2 available positions.

To stand for this paid position, contact the City Clerk's office to register on (626) 744-4124 or email CityClerk@CityOfPasadena.net

You'll be paid $45/hour by the City while providing a great service to the multi-family housing industry. Typical board member salaries last year were $9,000.

The deadline for completing your application and petition is April 21st, so please apply as soon as possible.

More information is available from the Rent Department.
