A Message from Principal Dumar

|
Hello Bradfield Parents,
I hope you enjoyed your three day weekend with your children. It was possibly a great time to get caught up on your One School, One Book reading. Your family should be ready to start Chapter 6 on Tuesday. I don’t know about you and your family, but I am really enjoying Trouble According to Humphrey. He has such a personality and I find myself visualizing his adventures. I always tell the students to “make a movie in your mind” as you are reading. This helps the reader stay focused and retain the details of the passage. Happy reading!
January is School Board Recognition Month. I would like to thank HPISD Trustees, who volunteer countless hours to support our staff, students, and community. Serving on our School Board is a volunteer position that entails countless hours of listening, problem solving and teamwork to ensure each aspect of our district runs smoothly. Thank you for helping us navigate to success!

Second grader, Lily Shi, from Mrs. Busker’s class, was the writer of the week. Her assignment was to write an information piece. It was obvious Lily has a passion for butterflies. She shared some interesting facts about butterflies and her illustrations were beautiful. Lily did a fabulous job keeping the listeners interested and she described intricate details of various butterflies. Great job, Lily!

I look forward to seeing your children at the front door!

School Report Card for Bradfield Elementary is Available to View
|
|
Dear Parents,
The State of Texas 2019-2020 School Report Card for Bradfield Elementary is now available. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be sent to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.
The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in the 2019-2020 School Report Card Definitions. The report for our school may or may not have all the information described because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school.
State law requires that the School Report Card display information about the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status of the students and must include at least two years of results.
Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this report card. Thank you for your continued support.

Library Update from Mrs. Jent: One School, One Book
|
|
Bradfield, along with the other elementary schools, kicked off our annual One School, One Book event last week. This year's selection is Trouble According to Humphrey, written by Betty G. Birney. Each family recieved one copy. We are hoping you will find time each night to read this book with your child so they can participate in the daily activities at school.
We would like to get pictures of kids, dogs, families, etc. reading the book together. Mrs. Jent made a google folder for parents to upload photos. Here is a LINK to upload your pictures.
Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With One School, One Book, our goal is to build a Community of Readers throughout HPISD. Everyone -- students, parents, teachers and administrators -- will literally be on the same page.
In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward attentive listening. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story. Through our OSOB website, students and teachers can engage in extension activities and discussion. You will want to make sure your family keeps up so your child can be included. Throughout the month, the entire community will be talking about Trouble According to Humphrey!
Happy reading!

Counselor’s Corner: A Note from Lana Raley
|
|
For the month of January, we’re talking about the trait of Perseverance.
The dictionary defines perseverance as: “Persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.”
The definition we are using in school is:
Perseverance: the ability to work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way.
A lot of research today is telling us that the highest indicators of success in our kids isn’t just about their grades or their IQ. The number one skill that helps people of all walks of life be successful is GRIT! The ability to persevere in the face of adversity or even failure. Over the course of the month, we will talk about inspiring people who faced many failures before they found success. We will talk about what it means to navigate tough stuff, even when it feels overwhelming or really hard. We will talk about having a Growth Mindset – to see challenges and failures as an opportunity to grow instead of a brick wall.
Family Conversation Starters:
-
Failure is a part of Perseverance. What does it mean to fail? Can you think of a time when you failed and were not able to reach your goal? What are some ways we can respond to failure that are both positive and negative?
-
Share a personal story of Perseverance with your child. What were your challenges? What or who helped you persevere? What tangible steps did you take? What lessons did you learn?
Lana Raley

A Message from PTA President Beth Birdwell
Please join me in thanking the following volunteers for keeping Bradfield BOLD:
Kate Cutshall and Courtney Petit, Auction Chairs, for making the difficult decision to make our auction completely virtual this year after spending so much time planning the in-person part of the event. These ladies along with their incredible auction team have been working for the past year to raise much needed funds for our school! We know our auction this year is going to be amazing thanks to their hard work!
Lara Gaither and Ashley Shull, Room Mom Chairs, for continuing to provide excellent communication with all of our room moms. Our teachers have been working harder than ever and Lara and Ashley are making sure we continue to support them however we can!
Erin Odom, Cafeteria Volunteer Chair, for making sure we have enough volunteers in our cafeteria every day! Even though our cafeteria process is different this year, Erin has made sure we have plenty of parents to keep our cafeteria running as smoothly as possible!
Allison Dickey, Directory Chairman, for updating DirectorySpot with any teacher changes after the winter break! It is very helpful for all of us to have an easy place to access updated class lists!
