April 28, 2023

Greetings Bradley Beach-

Back to April showers!

I am going to go to a weekly newsletter for the next few months.  We’ll keep the focus on 3 Infrastructure projects going on at the same time and we will continue to provide updates so that you can stay informed.

Project #1 Beachfront

Our Outfall Pipe on Ocean Park/ McCabe Avenue beaches.  Work began Monday, April 17th.  The construction companies are using the Evergreen Avenue beach entrance to avoid Promenade interruptions.  This “outfall pipe” delivers Stormwater to the ocean.  This week “sheathing” around the outfall pipe is being installed.  A little noisy!  The pipe materials have been fabricated and are in the coating stage right now.  Their delivery date is early May.

Project #2 Completing the “Phase II” Sewer project.

We resumed curbing, driveway aprons, and of course- paving on Third and Fourth Avenues, along with Ocean Ave. and some “north/ south” streets. We

are sequencing concrete work with milling/ paving efforts.

Project #3 Walking Bridge

The walking bridge on Lake Terrace Drive between Bradley Beach and Ocean Grove began a needed facelift.  Work began this week!  Great progress DPW!!!

A few other non-infrastructure news items I want to mention:

While I was inspecting the Outfall project last Sunday, I came across volunteers helping maintain our dunes- thanks so much!

Cats, Cats, and more Cats!

Please join your fellow residents for Friday/ Saturday/ Sunday performances at the School auditorium.

On Friday, April 28th, we have our ARBOR DAY celebration at the Second/ Third Avenue/ Main Street Park.  We’ll be honoring our 8th grade graduates with a tree planting.  Please join us (rain or shine) at 3:30 PM to celebrate!

The BB Shade Tree Commission is looking for volunteers for their Arbor Tree Spring Planting this SUNDAY (changed due to anticipated bad weather Saturday). The event is from 9:00AM to Noon.  We will gather at the 2nd Avenue Park to organize!

Best part of the job- swearing in our future leaders!  Ten “Special” officers are heading to the Academy for training in May and will support our summer resort season in Bradley Beach!  College and High School students from Monmouth, Ocean, and Middlesex counties- we are lucky!

We have a lot to be thankful for here in Bradley Beach, and much to celebrate.  We will continue to focus on Service and Progress as a Municipal Team.

Thank you- and see you around town!

Mayor Larry Fox

Bradley Food Pantry is excited to announce its second annual Take a Bite Out of Hunger

fundraising event on Thursday, May 4th, 2023. Take a Bite Out of Hunger is an easy way to have a great meal in any of a number of amazing local restaurants, connect with friends and neighbors in the community of Bradley Beach, and at the same time, help others who do not have enough to eat.

Various restaurants around town have committed to donating a percentage of their proceeds on May 4th to the Bradley Food Pantry. Customers who dine in a participating establishment at any time–breakfast, lunch, or dinner–on May 4th can enjoy a wonderful meal and know that they are also helping the Bradley Food Pantry to help others in need. Participating restaurants will have a sign in the window letting customers know of their pledge to help the community. Last year restaurants donated over $5000 to the Pantry, and this year we hope to top that amount.

Restaurants participating include Bamboo Leaf, Bradley Brew Project, D’arcy’s, E. Holland Sundries, Fins, La Fogata Ideal, Marandola’s, Panchos y Juanchos, the Perfect Perk, Rocco’s, and Vic’s.

The Bradley Food Pantry is an entirely volunteer-run organization founded in 1982, and is one of the longest-serving pantries in the state. It provides food to over 1400 families every month, which is a considerable increase from last year. The Pantry is open 5 mornings a week and one evening, and serves clients primarily from Asbury Park to Wall. While a large portion of the food provided comes to the Pantry cost-free through federal and state government through the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean counties, we still spent $100,000 in 2022 to buy food and $30,000 to pay for utilities and supplies. Please make plans to dine locally in a participating restaurant on May 4th to help the Bradley Food Pantry to Take a Bite Out of Hunger. For more information about the Bradley Food Pantry, you can visit the website at www.bradleyfoodpantry.org or
