In 2019, Laura Thompson, co-founder of natural skincare brand Three Ships, was diagnosed with a grade two astrocytoma after years of unexplained episodes and a long journey toward answers. Her experience taught her the importance of self-advocacy, resilience and the power of perspective, lessons that continue to shape both her personal life and business journey.

Laura and Three Ships are proud sponsors of the 2025 Toronto (GTA) and Edmonton Brain Tumour Walks, and Laura serves as a passionate walk ambassador, giving back to the community that supported her early on in her diagnosis.

Meet our 2025 Brain Tumour Walk ambassadors!

Each year, the Brain Tumour Walk unites Canadians from coast to coast in a powerful display of solidarity and support for everyone affected by a brain tumour. Behind every walk is a story: one of courage, resilience and the unbreakable bonds formed through shared experience. We’re proud to introduce the 2025 Brain Tumour Walk ambassadors, seven individuals from across the country who embody the strength of our community. Read the article

In early 2020, Elman Mirzaei experienced a seizure in his sleep, leading to the discovery of a slow-growing, operable grade two astrocytoma. Following a successful surgery, he made a full recovery. Since then, he now embraces every moment through marriage, meaningful work, and travel.

Congratulations to Dr. Emma Martell, one of our $100,000 Research Fellowship Grant Recipients!

Dr. Martell is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Manitoba. Her project focuses on a critical but often overlooked aspect of childhood brain cancer. Group 3 medulloblastoma is an aggressive tumour with limited treatment options. Dr. Martell’s research explores how tumour cells interact with nearby blood vessels and how this relationship might be disrupted to slow tumour growth. This work could lead to life-changing treatments for children facing this devastating disease.

Supporting fellowships is crucial, as they provide researchers with the resources and time needed to explore new ideas, deepen their investigations and advance progress in this complex field. By investing in talented scientists, we are helping to drive innovation and move closer to a future with better treatments and improved outcomes for those affected by brain tumours.
