FACING A BRAIN TUMOUR | SUPPORT | STORIES | NEWS RESEARCH | DONATE

Mark your calendar for Friday, October 24, Brain Cancer Awareness Day!

Since 2018, Canadians have come together on this day to wear their hats in solidarity, share their photos online and spark a wave of compassion and connection across the country.

On Friday, October 24, wear your Hats for Hope gear, snap a picture and share it on social media using the hashtag #HatsForHope. Each post spreads awareness, starts conversations and shows the brain tumour community they’re not alone!

This year, actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, best known for his award-winning role as Appa in Kim’s Convenience, is joining the campaign as an ambassador to help amplify awareness nationwide.

Paul has been a longtime supporter of our Hats for Hope campaign, our community and our cause. We are grateful to have his support once again in raising awareness and funds for those affected by brain tumours.

In June 2023, we shared a petition launched by Disability without Poverty, whose mission is to build a movement that lifts people with disabilities out of poverty in Canada by mobilizing grassroots power, working with government and securing public support for ending disability poverty.

As a result of tireless advocacy efforts, the Canada Disability Benefit Regulations have been determined, and the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is now open for applications, marking a historic step toward reducing disability poverty in Canada. Canadians aged 18 to 64 who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit may now access this crucial financial support.

This month, we’re proud to recognize our volunteer, Michelle Bliss, whose compassion and dedication have made a real difference in our support groups.

“As both a brain tumour survivor and a caregiver, Michelle brings a unique perspective to the support group she facilitates. Her kindness reminds participants that they are not alone. She brings warmth and understanding to every meeting, creating a safe and supportive space for everyone. She is also supportive of her fellow volunteers and recognizes them for their efforts. The volunteer work that Michelle does for our organization has a positive impact on those affected by brain tumours.” – Kate Moore, Manager of Programs and Services at Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
