FACING A BRAIN TUMOUR | SUPPORT | STORIES | NEWS RESEARCH | DONATE

This month, we're highlighting stories from individuals affected by non-malignant brain tumours. Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is committed to supporting everyone impacted by a brain tumour, whether malignant, non-malignant, or metastatic, because every journey matters. For any questions or comments, please contact us.

Amber Gunderson began experiencing severe headaches at age seven, which were misdiagnosed for years. At 14, she was finally diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent surgery, followed by a long recovery. Despite setbacks, she rebuilt her life, became a pipefitter, and a mom of four.

Kayla Krahn was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2022 after experiencing migraines, vision issues, and numbness. Following surgery and recovery, she faced a recurrence in 2024 and completed radiation treatment.

With the support of her family and a community of fellow survivors, Kayla continues to move forward.

Digital storytelling combines the power of personal experience with multimedia elements, such as visuals, narration, and music, to bring stories to life in a deeply moving and impactful way. Now in its third edition, this special workshop, facilitated by filmmaker Mike Lang, brought together five young adult brain tumour survivors from our community to create their own digital stories: authentic, emotional reflections of resilience, hope, and identity.

In this second video, we’re honoured to share the story of Layne Hellrung, a brain tumour survivor and is now training to swim the English Channel. His story focuses on experiencing your feelings, taking a deep breath, making a plan, and acting on that plan.

Congratulations to Alice Marentette, the winner of our Summer 50/50 Ontario Raffle! Alice won half of the $8,505 jackpot and chose to donate $1,000 back to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada in memory of her brother Lachie, who passed away from glioblastoma.

Ben Seewald was just 18 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, a life-changing moment that led him to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. Years later, he's come full circle, now working as a support services specialist helping families, children, and youth navigate their own diagnoses.

Help us reach our goal!
