FACING A BRAIN TUMOUR | SUPPORT | STORIES | NEWS RESEARCH | DONATE

The 2025 Brain Tumour Walk season was one to remember. From coast to coast, communities came together with purpose, compassion and determination, and together, we reached our $1 million fundraising goal

Every step taken, every donation made and every story shared helped bring hope, connection and support to people affected by a brain tumour across Canada. We are deeply grateful to every participant, donor, volunteer, sponsor and supporter who made this year possible.

Registration for the 2026 Brain Tumour Walk opens on January 20. We look forward to walking with you again!

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada celebrates its 44th anniversary this January 30! Our journey began with Kelly Northey’s story, a little girl whose passing inspired a mission. Her father, Steve Northey, alongside Dr. Rolando Del Maestro and Pamela Del Maestro, turned their grief and sadness into action, creating Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada to provide research funding, support and education for brain tumour patients and their families.

Nitika Chahar moved to Canada in 2015 to build a better life for her family, but in 2020 she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Despite complications that left her relearning basic skills, Nitika regained her independence, returned to work, and continues to focus on her health, family, and resilience. Her journey has reshaped her perspective, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing well-being and embracing each day with gratitude.

Jennifer Galati of Thunder Bay, Ont., discovered she had a brain tumour just days after turning 12 in September 2001. Years of unexplained symptoms had been dismissed, but a seizure led to her urgent hospitalization and surgery at SickKids in Toronto, where doctors removed a non-malignant tumour.

Ross Miller’s connection to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a personal one, having lost his beloved wife, Cheryl, to glioblastoma in 2023. As an avid woodworker, Ross handcrafted a stunning wood toboggan that was auctioned at the 2024 Concert for the Kids.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has played a pivotal role in creating lasting resources that continue to shape the future of brain tumour research in Canada. We were instrumental in establishing both the Brain Tumour Registry and the Brain Tumour Tissue Bank—two national, non-profit entities that remain invaluable to researchers today.

By supporting the launch and early growth of these initiatives, we helped lay the foundation for tools that enable breakthroughs in understanding, treatment development and improved patient outcomes.

As we begin a new year, we’re excited to welcome some incredible new volunteers to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. We’re grateful to have them on our team and look forward to the profound impact they will make.

The new year is also a time to reflect on how we want to give back. For some, that intention may take the form of volunteering: sharing time, compassion and lived experience to support others. Volunteering with us can be a meaningful way to make a difference, build connections and be part of a community rooted in hope.
