NEWS / EVENTS / SPECIALS / TOM'S TIDBITS

I spoke last week about brand loyalty and how it is an emotional thing but is really kinda cool. I have another brand that has a piece of my heart besides Triumph and Honda and I just got one for my 71st birthday. It’s a Harley Davidson Super Glide Custom that I am just nuts over. No, I am not getting rid of my custom Triumph Bonneville T120 or my Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro, and yes, the garage is getting pretty crowded! I plan on riding a lot!

Since I opened So Cal Triumph in 2000, as owner, I should ride and promote the brands that we carry and I do, mostly. I have slipped a Harley into the mix a couple of times. Although racing and performance has always been on the forefront for me, I ‘m a cruiser rider at heart. My friends have, good naturedly, ribbed me for my affection for HD because performance and handling have always been most important to us. Harley is not known for its performance and handling but does excel in the “looks, sound and feel” departments. I grew up with the movie Easy Rider being one of my biggest influences when I started riding and I loved “Billy’s Panhead.”

Now I am not promoting HD especially if it is your only motorcycle. There are so many motorcycles that offer a wider package of performance, handling, comfort and are more economical. I am just describing why HD has a piece of my heart. This is one of the beautiful things about our sport of motorcycling. There are so many brands, models, and styles of riding that there is something for every person! I love motorcycling!

2024 Triumph Speed 400 Exclusive First Test

The British motorcycle industry has a long history of collaboration with India and two-wheel needs of the subcontinent, so it’s no surprise that the emergence of the new single-cylinder Triumph Speed 400 and its sister model, the Scrambler 400 X, is the result of a partnership between Triumph UK and Indian manufacturing giant Bajaj Auto. These bikes represent the marque’s first steps into the true entry-level market since being resurrected more than 40 years ago, and are hugely important bikes for Triumph. The new Speed 400 was shown to the press at the end of June, and now we get to throw a leg over the new 398cc single to get a taste of what the world can expect when it goes on sale in 2024.
