TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKER

PLACED AT BUFFALO, TEXAS

ACCIDENT SITE TODAY

Today, September 21, 2022, Braniff Airways Foundation and Braniff Airways officials traveled to Buffalo, Texas, to place the new Texas Historical Marker at the accident site of Braniff Flight 542. Braniff applied for the marker in 2020 and it was approved in 2021.

Delays because of COVID and a retiring sign engraver delayed the placement until today. Buffalo city officials and local newspapers joined the Braniff group for the placement ceremony. This is the second Texas Historical Marker placed for Braniff since 2018. In September 2024, Braniff and the City of Buffalo will host an event to honor the 65th Anniversary since the accident and at the time the new plaque will be dedicated.

The Flight 542 historical site will be added to the Braniff Trail Historical Plaque Project. You can view the Braniff Trail Route Map at

Nine new Braniff Trail plaques will be installed in the Braniff Chapel during the First Quarter of 2023. Braniff Airways Foundation has installed nearly 35 Braniff historical plaques in the last ten years!
