BRANSON BUSINESS ICONS PETER AND JACK HERSCHEND HONORED

The Hawthorn Foundation selected Peter and Jack Herschend of Herschend Family Entertainment as this year’s Kit Bond Citizen Leadership Award honorees. This award was first given in 2018 to Missouri Senator Bond himself, Hawthorn’s founder.

Hawthorn Foundation is a group of statewide leaders dedicated to the economic prosperity of all Missourians. Governor Mike Parson and Senator Kit Bond were in attendance to help honor the Herschends, as well as many elected officials including Branson Mayor Larry Milton. Branson Chamber of Commerce/CVB staff and board members joined other business leaders from around the state at Big Cedar Lodge for this year's dinner, honoring the Herschend brothers on Thursday, June 15.

TSA TESTING FACIAL RECOGNITION AT AIRPORTS

A passenger walks up to an airport security checkpoint, slips an ID card into a slot and looks into a camera atop a small screen. The screen flashes “Photo Complete” and the person walks through — all without having to hand over their identification to the TSA officer sitting behind the screen. It’s all part of a pilot project by the Transportation Security Administration to assess the use of facial recognition technology at a number of airports across the country.

“What we are trying to do with this is aid the officers to actually determine that you are who you say who you are,” said Jason Lim, identity management capabilities manager, during a demonstration of the technology to reporters at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The effort comes at a time when the use of various forms of technology to enhance security and streamline procedures is only increasing. TSA says the pilot is voluntary and accurate, but critics have raised concerns about questions of bias in facial recognition technology and possible repercussions for passengers who want to opt out.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS' SUPER BOWL LVII TROPHY

AT MISSOURI STATE CAPITOL

Governor Mike Parson announced that he will host a public viewing of the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl LVII Lombardi Trophy at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. The event will take place June 27 - 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day as part of the team's "Chiefs Champions Tour."

The Lombardi Trophy will be displayed in the State Capitol Rotunda (1st floor) in a custom GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium backdrop. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors will need to enter the Capitol through the main security entrance (south side) where they will then follow verbal and posted directions to the trophy viewing area. Attendees will have a photo opportunity with the trophy and state staff members will be present to assist.
