Overnight work is planned for tonight Friday, September 18, 2026 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Day work on Bridge 10B on U.S. Route 5 over Interstate 91 is scheduled to begin Monday, September 21, 2026 at 6:30 a.m.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Vermont Route 9: (Night Work)

Single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place from the Exit 2 interchange to the Edward Heights intersection from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning. No street-side parking will be available through the work zone. Motorists should watch for wet paint.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro (Night Work)

From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, single-lane closures will be in place on U.S. 5 from the intersection with Eaton Avenue through the Exit 3 roundabout to the Old Ferry Road intersection with flaggers and uniformed traffic officers assisting traffic through alternating traffic patterns.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro-Putney (Day Work)

Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. single-lane closures will be in place on U.S. 5 on the bridge over Interstate 91 between Bennett Drive and Old Ferry Road. Flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through daily work zones.

Final pavement on VT 9 with line-striping targets in place.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Vermont Route 9: (Night Work)

Crews will be working throughout the length of the project limits on various finishing items. Bridge joint work is scheduled. Layout for the final pavement markings has finished and crews will begin painting as they are freed up on U.S. 5. The paint work is scheduled into Saturday mornings and motorists should watch for wet paint.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro (Night Work)

Permanent pavement marking application is continuing on U.S. 5. The paint crew will be working on permanent markings into Saturday mornings.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro-Putney (Day Work)

The contractor is planning to work on Bridge 10B (the I-91 overpass between Old Ferry Road and Bennett Drive) between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. starting Monday. Work for this bridge includes milling, excavation, bridge repairs, paving, and bridge joint work.

LOCATION:

This contract is a composite of three separate paving projects with detailed locations listed below. It includes all Class 1 limits of Brattleboro which are typically noted by a sign stating "State Highway Ends" and "State Highway Begins". Work to be done on these projects includes coarse milling (grinding off the top layers of pavement) to a depth of 2 inches and paving a ½ inch leveling course and then a 1 ½ inch top course of asphalt. ADA evaluation of sidewalk and pedestrian crossings, sign replacement, guardrail repair and replacement, center line rumble strip location evaluation and installation, drainage work, and other highway improvements are also planned as a part of these projects.

Brattleboro PC25(5)

VT 9: The project begins at Edward Heights intersection and extends approximately 1.7 miles east to the I-91 Exit 2 interchange.

Brattleboro-Putney STP PS25(11)

U.S. 5: The project begins on U.S. 5 in Brattleboro at the “State Highway Begins” sign at the intersection with Vermont Avenue and extends northerly along U.S. 5 for approximately 8.0 miles to just north of the Putney Landing Road intersection in Putney. Work will also take place within the roundabout and from the roundabout east to the New Hampshire state line on VT 9.

Brattleboro PC25(6) - Substantially Complete in 2025

U.S. 5: The project begins at the intersection with Generous Street and extends approximately 1.9 miles north to the Vermont Avenue intersection.

VT 9: The project begins at I-91 Exit 2 interchange and extends approximately 1.0 mile east to the intersection with U.S. 5 at the traffic signal.

VT 30: The project begins at the U.S. 5 and VT 30 interchange and follows VT 30 three tenths of a mile north to approximately the intersection with Cedar Street.

VT 142: The project begins at the Class 1 limit sign just south of the railroad tracks near Riverside Drive and follows VT 142 north to the intersection with U.S. 5 at the traffic signal, skipping over the newly paved portion of VT 142 completed for the Brattleboro-Hinsdale bridge project.
