Winter can be a great time to work in the outdoors - no bugs, no humidity and no dense brush to work around. We promise hot drinks and a truly beautiful winter landscape!

This is an opportunity to explore an area not usually open to the public - an oasis not far from the Des Moines metro. It's a peaceful getaway unique with prairie, wetland, woodland and oak savanna habitat.

Brush removal involves using various hand tools (handsaws or loppers) to manually cut the brush from the land. Participants may also work next to or with a certified chain sawyer who will also be cutting brush. No experience is necessary. All volunteers are encouraged to work at their own pace.

With questions or to RSVP, contact Mary Runkel, INHF volunteer coordinator, at  or 515-288-1846, ext. 17.
