More than 96 supporters of the Austin Food & Wine Alliance had the rare opportunity on August 13 to dine above it all atop the Austonian, Austin's tallest building, and embark on an incredible journey into Chef David Bull's culinary inspiration — his family's upstate New York Italian restaurant, Olivieri's.
Huge thanks to Chef David Bull for sharing his extraordinary talent, family stories and amazing family-inspired dishes. We're thrilled to share Chef Bull's Menu and Wine Pairings with you. We would also like to thank Jason Stevens and Sommelier Paula Rester for providing wonderful cocktails and wine pairings for this extraordinary evening.
Chef Bull wanted to share a few words from that night:
Thank you for joining me last night to help me pay tribute to my family and to celebrate the history of Olivieri's! It was a privilege to share my family stories with you and was honored to have the chance to share a glimpse of what it was like growing up in an Italian family restaurant!
For those who were unable to attend, I mentioned at the Wine and Dine event that my mother Gloria went to the courthouse two weeks ago and was determined to win back the restaurant during a foreclosure auction. Well needless to say, she got the top bid and since then has removed 4.5 tons of trash and debris with the help of local friends and family. Even some old regulars of the restaurant have been showing up with gloves and shovels to lend a helping hand. Olivieri's was an iconic legendary restaurant that brought families together — our guests became our family and after 25 years of running the restaurant my grandparents created something that is not often found today. We want to bring that back and restore Olivieri's to her original glory! We have started a fundraising campaign to help with the renovation. Donations will go to the first phase helping with trash removal, HVAC, plumbing, electricity and foundation repair.
We hope you will join in our journey to bring back one of upstate NY's most beloved treasures. It is our goal and to be able to continue the legacy of hospitality as Grandpa Joe and Mama O would have wanted it, making memories with new regulars, and sharing our love for food and wine once again!
