 Summer Conference Wrap up!

SCBWI's annual summer conference was a great success! Attendees were able to learn from industry pros and award winning kid lit creators such as Dhonielle Clayton, Jessixa Bagley, and Donna Barba Higuera as well as participate in over 35 breakout sessions.

We were able to provide two scholarships thanks to a generous donation from founding Brazos Valley SCBWI member and award-winning author, Kathi Appelt. Thanks, Kathi!

Our very own RA, Romy Natalia Goldberg was presented with the Stephen J. Mooser Member of the Year Award. You can see her pre-recorded acceptance speech (filmed in Asuncion, Paraguay where she is currently visiting family) here

Attendees will be able to access the conference's video archive until September 11th. If did not register but would like to learn what conference goers enjoyed and learned from the conference, check out the #scbwisummer22 hashtag on Twitter and Instagram!

About SCBWI conferences:

Conferences are a great way to network with and gain valuable face time and receive critiques from industry insiders. SCBWI HQ holds two conferences per year, the summer conference, traditionally held in Los Angeles, and the winter conference, traditionally held in New York. In addition, many local chapters hold regional conferences. If you are interested in helping chair an SCBWI Brazos Valley conference committee, please let us know!

Our friends up in SCBWI North Texas will be hosting their very own in-person conference this October. Early bird pricing is available through August 19. Register here: https://northtexas.scbwi.org/events/2022-fall-conference/

Join us for an edifying weekend of instruction, networking, and career building advice!

The North Texas Chapter of SCBWI wants to help build your children’s book career!

So, here’s your invitation to join us on Saturday October 15, 2022, if you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and work on your craft with our fabulous faculty.

We’ll hit the ground running with a Keynote, six breakouts and an afternoon of Intensives featuring Random House Studio Editor Maria Modugno, Red Fox Literary Agent Sarah Stephens, NYT Best Selling Illustrator, Alexandra Boiger, Award Winning Author, Nancy Churnin and Award-Winning Novelist, Rebecca Balcárcel!

There will be opportunities for manuscript and portfolio critiques. We’re intentionally keeping our registration numbers low to allow for maximum interaction with publishing professionals.

KUDOS!

Congratulations to Rachael Cunha and Heather Woleslagel for winning the Brazos Valley Member half-scholarships for the Summer Conference! We hope you enjoyed it and learned a lot!

Congratulations to Erin Casey on a successful and fun-filled book launch at Whimsy & Wild Emporium. You can read more about the event in The Eagle

Let us celebrate with you. Please share your good news with [email protected], in our Facebook group at SCBWI Brazos Valley, or on Twitter @SCBWIBrazos.
