"Slice of Bread"

A Message from The Pastor's Desk……

Dear friends in Christ,

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-8)

This was a reading we recently heard in worship. What gives this extra meaning is that life was no cake walk for Paul or the church in Philippi. Both Paul and the church knew hardship and struggles. They knew the challenges of life. And yet, Paul trusts. Paul trusts that God is near. Paul trusts that God is always at work for good. Despite the hard things of life, Paul urges the church to cling to the promise that God cares for them, loves them through and through and will provide.

We know life is not without hardship and yet we are invited to keep our eyes open for God’s nearness and God working for good in our midst.

As I take a look around at our church I can’t help but rejoice at all the ways God is near and at work. Recently staff and clients of REM (serving folks with disabilities) planted the church community garden alongside Bread of Life volunteers and shared in a monthly meal. Bread of Life volunteers also served the Saturday meal at the Welcome Table to 130 individuals in the community. As I write this, around 30 children, youth, and adults are gathering this week for Vacation Bible School “Celebrating the Holidays”. This upcoming Monday, Bread of Life will host a monthly Re-entry and Connection Gathering in partnership with the F5 Project, for those having recently left correctional facilities and those exiting or currently in addiction treatment. Our two garages were recently sided and shingled, a much needed repair, which has generously already been funded.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say Rejoice.

The Lord is near,

Pr. Patrick

Note From the Council President:

Summer greetings from the Bread of Life Church Council!

Although we are still early in June as I write this article, we have lots of wonderful things already accomplished:

  • Vacation Bible School finished on June 4. Many thanks to all the children that attended and the volunteers that led them in a Celebration of Holidays theme.
  • The church parking lot was swept and cracks were filled.
  • Both garages had the shingles replaced. Thanks to the generosity of our church members, the total cost of the shingling project, $5900, was more than covered!
  • The garden is planted.
  • The geraniums and outdoor flower pot arrangements add much beauty to the front of the church.
  • A new bishop, Lisa Lewton, was elected at the Synod Assembly to serve the Western North Dakota Synod.

Even during the summer months, there are many ways to serve the church by:

  • Watering the garden or flowers.
  • Helping with lawn care.
  • Baking communion bread.
  • Helping with communion set up.
  • Helping at the Welcome Table.
  • Helping with monthly F5 dinners.
  • Serving fellowship on Sunday following the church service.

Please reach out if your schedule allows you to help in any way. We appreciate you!

The church council is planning to host a summer barbeque for members and neighbors on August 11. More details to follow. Until then, make it a summer you’ll always remember, with people you’ll never forget!

God’s blessings,

Tracey Lawson Council President

Celebrate the Holidays VBS 2026 Recap!

Water balloons, reindeer pancakes, toilet paper mummies, ice cream, halloween costumes, Christmas garden display, football, thanksgiving dinner, bells, noise makers, hand painted turkeys, easter egg hunt, hand bells, water soakers, silent night by candlelight! We just about covered it all as we celebrated the holidays at this year’s Vacation Bible School. Oh what fun! At the heart of our theme this year was the reminder that “You are God’s beloved child”. All in all we had around 25 kids and youth helpers participating this year. Many thanks to the adults and youth that helped make this year so awesome!!

2026 Synod Assembly - THAT'S A WRAP!

Nearly 300 members of the Western North Dakota Synod gathered in Watford City for the WND Synod Assembly from May 29th – 31st. The theme for the event was based on Luke 10:1-9 and focused on “Walking Together.” As people of faith who call the congregations of this synod their faith home, we are called into relationship and sent into the world two by two.

At this year’s assembly, we gathered for worship, holy

conversation, and faithful decision making; highlighted by the election of a new Synod Bishop, Rev. Lisa Lewton. We were invited to deepen our connections, strengthen our common life, and recommit ourselves to God’s mission of healing, hope, and peace in our congregations, communities, and across western North Dakota.
