A Message from The Pastor's Desk……
Dear friends in Christ,
How is it March already?! It feels as if we were just ringing in the new year. I guess time flies when you’re having fun…or if you’re Kermit the Frog, time’s fun when you’re having flies. In any case, here we are at the beginning of a new month and headed toward the beginning of spring. This past month kicked off the church season of Lent. Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter (not including Sundays). Originally the lenten season was a time in which people would prepare to be baptized on Easter. The 40 days recall Jesus’ 40 days when he was tempted in the wilderness to go a different way than the one in which God had in mind for him. The tempter presented other options, those of powerful, glorious acquisition (all the splendor of the kingdoms of the earth), thrilling spectacle (throw one’s self off of the top of the temple tower peak), and easy comfort (turn the stones into bread). Yet, Jesus held strong (as Jesus does) and resisted those temptations, until the tempter gave up and the angels arrived to gather around Jesus. It was a defining moment for Jesus, a time when he got clear and committed to his mission of self sacrificial generosity, humility, and service. In addition to a time to prepare to be baptized, the church season of Lent can also be seen as a time of “baptismal renewal”, a time when followers of Jesus recommit to the life of faith, remembering the promises of God to us and affirming our own promises to God. Within our tradition we hold that by grace we have been “sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.” God never leaves our side. God promises to show us steadfast loving kindness again and again. In response to God’s grace, in baptism we commit to the following things…
to live among God’s faithful people,
to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth
During our worship services on Easter we’ll collectively renew these baptismal promises that are at the heart of our faith. May this time leading up to Christ’s defeat of sin, death and hatred be a blessing to you, may it be a time of renewed rest, strength, and purpose. May you be reminded of God’s abundant and overflowing love for you.
Grace and peace,
Pr. Patrick

The Palm Sunday Path is a growing, ecumenical movement of church leaders that recognize now is the time for Christians to publicly witness to our Christian values as laid out for us by Jesus in Matthew 25. We will publicly and visibly discuss and advocate for these values of feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and welcoming the stranger. We will call on every elected leader at every level - regardless of party - to work with us on policies that promote these values.
Together, we will join in with those in other upper Midwest states and across the country in a non-partisan path of action with multiple points of entry, roles, and room for everyone who holds these values.
The Palm Sunday Processional Worship will take place on Sunday, March 29th, 2026. It will begin at Trinity Lutheran Church (502 N 4th St, Bismarck) at 3:00pm. We will process to the steps of the ND State Capitol Building. An ecumenical worship service highlighting our values of feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, and welcoming the stranger will start at 4pm on the Capitol Steps. We look forward to seeing you there

Lent 2026 - True Christians
What does it look like to be a true follower of Jesus in today's world? Ministry teams will serve lenten meals from 515-6pm, midweek lenten worship will be held from 6-6:45pm, and all ages faith activities held from 645-730pm.
